I think that horrid White House press conference where two malignant narcissists lied to everyone about autism and its made-up causes and fake cures is still fucking with my head. And you know what doesn't help? All the probably well-intentioned allistic people trying to do right but being so ignorant about autism that they just make things worse. And even those standing up against the misinformation aren't really standing up for autistic people, but are mostly using us as a way to get people to rally against Trump and RFKjr. After this moment passes, they'll forget all about us and go back to focusing on people they actually care about for their own sake. Because when have you ever heard an allistic person use their platform to support autistic people's politics? The only time I ever hear people talk about us when they aren't using us to get attention for their own goals is when they make jokes about us being awkward and weird.
I tried to watch Jon Lovett and Tim Miller talk about that autism press conference on their SpeechCenter podcast, and I only made it a minute or two before I had to nope out. The way they casually joked about bullshit potential causes like "geriatric sperm" let me know exactly how much they knew or cared about us, because they still think everyone is right to want to get rid of us and remove us from the human species. Even people who think they are on our side are still eager to do a eugenics and make us all disappear. I hope someday they learn enough to understand even a little how disgusting and unacceptable that is.
EDIT: I forgot to say how gross it was watching two gay men talk about discovering the cause of autism. Just 50 or 60 years ago it would have been two straight men talking about the causes of homosexuality and how to prevent it. I do not understand how they can be so fucking stupid.
