I am heartbroken by Dr. Darren Markland's passing last weekend. He was such an irreplaceable voice and advocate for both public healthcare in Alberta and for the Edmonton cycling community.
I heard about it early this week, but have remained silent because honestly I don't even know the words to say. I wish I could have attended Coffee Outside and gotten to know Dr. Markland better in person, but my commute is on the west end and downtown is too far out of my way in the morning. I did however follow him and listen to his words on social media, and can say from that limited experience what an incredible human being he was.
So this Friday I will break from my usual work routine to attend a #coffeeoutside, for Dr. Markland.
And I hope to learn more about the ride being planned for him at a later date, as well.
