Throwback to 1986 with Steve Ballmer hyping up Windows 1.0 like it’s the future.

Little did they know… the real future was open source. 🐧💻

@itsfoss Nebraska always getting the short end of the stick. I mean, it's not like it isn't deserved.

@itsfoss The good old days

(I wasn't born yet btw)

@itsfoss Pure Comedy Gold. I kick $75 to debian.org every time I install a new version.
@itsfoss This is really scary... I mean, both the presenter and the system 😁
@itsfoss He should have advertised Windows Phone. 😀

I never got the hype about Windows when it came out. It felt cumbersome, sluggish and just a resource hog preventing me from allocating more memory to the programs I actually wanted to use.

Indeed, the real hype for me happened in 1996, when I got my hands on a set of Slackware Linux installation floppies. That was love at first sight.

@itsfoss now i know where Doug DeMuro got his presentation style from.
@itsfoss wow! Early beginnings of an apparently for ever unpleasant Steve Ballmer. Did people really buy stuff because some maniac yelled at them and told them to do so?
@Slayerfest79 @itsfoss that was a parody “ad” that was originally only shared within Microsoft. Not that ads in the 80s weren’t awful. Most ads have always sucked.
@thatKomputerKat @itsfoss oh! The parody character would've escaped me completely. Thanks for pointing it out.
Still an extremely unpleasant person representing an equally unpleasant and loud company.

@itsfoss

I've always said that MS, at least since Balmer, is more of a cult than an operating system!
