Are we addicted to American payment providers?

I recently switched to #grapheneos and so far my experience has been great. Knowing my exposure to Google's services has been reduced.

However, today I forgot my wallet. Normally this would not be a problem as I would use my phone. But because of Google's arbitrary restrictions on running Google Wallet on custom android operating systems, was this no option.

This led me to search for #eu alternatives to #BigTech NFC payments.
Is there any? (DA)

@Theis_m I don't use it, but I've read that Curve works for contactless payments on GrapheneOS. I don't know if it works in the EU, though.

@internic @Theis_m Good to know when setting up a curve account: you can't use all email addresses you want. When I try signing up with my [email protected], I get this screen. Using a Gmail address fixes that. Changing it later is not working either.
@mpldr @Theis_m Well that's both odd and troubling. I wonder what else would be rejected or accepted. It would be unfortunate if they only accept the few most major email services.

A little update: I managed to create an account with a proton.me mail, without any problem.
