Damn. A fee of $100,000 has been added to H-1B visa applications for tech including all other companies/sectors, especially those in Silicon Valley, which use the program most frequently. https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/trump-mulls-adding-new-100000-fee-h-1b-visas-bloomberg-news-reports-2025-09-19/

@nixCraft

Great news for American programmers!
Thanks to this "free market" policy, now they won't have to compete with cheap Indian programmers.

@purrperl @nixCraft I think it is more likely that companies will hire Indian devs in India rather than bother with the H1-B.
@stinerman @purrperl @nixCraft agree this will only promote more offshore contractors, for tech companies is not that bad, way cheaper resources and you can skip labor laws
@stinerman @purrperl @nixCraft and don’t mean this as a good thing, more like the perfect excuse, the company I work for stopped hiring american based engineers two years ago
@bluememon @purrperl @nixCraft mine just opened a subsidiary in Pune. We still hire stateside though.

@stinerman @nixCraft

Manhole covers in many American towns read like: "Municipality of Bakersfield. MADE IN INDIA" There's iron ore & mining labor in USA, but the labor is unionized, so it's cheaper to fly heavy metal all the way from India.

With software jobs going overseas, Americans will realize that they are just overfed guinea pigs for manufactured luxuries, made by third world labor, living in a sugary petridish.
Unlike Germans, Americans don't make much, except hype, not even software.

@purrperl @stinerman @nixCraft uhhh you're special.

@NosirrahSec @stinerman @nixCraft

Thank you! I travel too and have seen some other countries. Have you?

@purrperl @NosirrahSec @stinerman @nixCraft Huh, surprising! Travel doesn’t teach humility. Who knew!

H1-B brings in payroll taxes and rental income. Easier to supervise.

#Trump 's new rule disregards existing rule, that guest workers make the prevailing wage. I guess it's too hard for the administration to enforce.
