The Third Reich didn't last 1,000 years. Pinochet was ousted with a referendum. And the US isn't exactly dealing with the smartest, most competent fascists. Those of you insisting that 2025 is forever need to read a book, touch grass, go to therapy, anything other than trying to make others quit.

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

It is encouraging that they are as evil as stupid and incompetent.

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social I'm more worried about how many people died as a result of the third Reich before it fell.

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social While I agree we shouldn't quit

The Third Reich was responsible for for WW2

Pinochet lead for 17 years

and yeah our fascists are lead by a slew of morons but they're still being pretty effective

I think taking them lightly is partly how we got here.
Give up. No. Take this lightly. Also no.

@jwilker @nicholasgrossman.bsky.social Unless one counts the invasion of China as the start of World War II, which might be reasonable.

In any case, people who give up are guilty of listening to enemy propaganda. It is the duty of a citizen to ignore enemy propaganda.

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social Just because it won’t last forever doesn’t mean you’ll be allowed by the regime to survive long enough to see it go away.

I mean, eventually the Sun will explode. If we wait long enough that will solve all our problems. I guess there’s nothing to worry about. Let’s just let the fascists do as they please since the issue will sort itself out in a few billion years.

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social "The Third Reich didn't last 1,000 years"

No but it did succeed in MURDERING 10s of MILLIONS before we decided we'd had enough. Is that going to happen again?

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social Oh yeah. We're totally going to beat this. But that doesn't mean I ain't wrestling with the complex emotions of realizing we're currently living in a dystopian hellscape 🥴

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

Nothing is forever.

But that doesn’t mean the Reich of the Incompetent will be over fast. Or that it won’t do vast harm, and kill many, and destroy many lives.

It will come to an end.
But the fact that it will doesn’t make any of it ok.

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

not mentioned in this post:
Pinochet was in power for 17 years & over 3,000 ppl were killed or forcible disappeared. 30,000 to 100,000 were tortured

"forever" is a helluva word. 🙄
& these fascists had a previous term in office in which they learned more than you seem to acknowledge. their stupidity wont save us.

what ppl like myself are suggesting, is that the era of fair, normal elections is over & folks should prepare for that, not quit. SMFH

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social And slam a nazi's face into the pavement if it makes you feel better.

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social Completely agree, thanks for this reminder and reality check.

And thank you for bridging your account to the broader fediverse. We need to hear your voice, too.

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social you a rightwing snowflake?
Go read history books, dickhead
So the part that concerns me is, I am actually slightly less worried about Trump and more worried about the billionaires and supreme court justices that give Trump his power. At some point the Trumpers will lose an election, but supreme court justices and billionaires serve for life.
And that means the *next* election—Democrats won't win every election for the rest of our lives, either—the supreme court and the billionaires can get a new weirdo in and resume the damage. You can maybe get around this with supreme court packing and hyperinflation, but nobody likes hyperinflation.
It's not as simple as "we're doomed" but it's not as simple as "vote them out" either

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

My worry isn't it lasting forever.
It's fascism so it's fundamentally unstable.
I am worried about it outliving me.
Which is a VERY DIFFERENT fear.

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social We are all up in arms because Russia has been flying drones over NATO countries such as ...

Poland.

I’m 64 years old. There are a lot of adults now who may not understand, as I do, why the above is seriously weird.
