Germany's position has been reverted to UNDECIDED.

Despite expressing concerns about breaking end-to-end encryption, Germany refrained from taking a definitive stance on the Chat Control proposal during the September 12th LEWP meeting. A willingness to negotiate and compromise remains.

This is an unfortunate development as Germany is crucial to defeating Chat Control.

@chatcontrol We eased up on media pressure in recent days, thinking Germany's opposition meant we could afford to scale back the most aggressive measures. That turned out to be a mistake.

Something we briefly managed to control has now slipped through our fingers.

From now on: full mobilization. We're not backing down πŸ”₯✊

@watchfulcitizen @chatcontrol Well, we can't turn back time 😒 All that's left is to fight for a better future... Or rather, not a worse one ✊
@chatcontrol Keep fighting! Don't let Germany support it! We're not backing down from this! ✊

@Kurosetii @chatcontrol So we have to fight whether we want it or not ✊✊
@chatcontrol 12th of September* Please stop using the nonsense date format.
@chatcontrol
I'm not a german so
@Tutanota better legislate with your local reps to come back to opposing or you're moving to japan (fitting, considering the name "Tuta")
and for other germans, as @andreagtacj said.
@chatcontrol Looks like the US spying on Merkel wasn't enough for them. #SaltTyphoon also didn't teach them a lesson. Can't they see that whatever backdoor they put will be used by China, Russia, N. Korea, Iran etc. to spy on them?
@chatcontrol Is there anything I can do as a citizen of one of the green countries?
@honzajavorek @chatcontrol honestly, we shouldn't claim the victory just yet either, what they claim now before elections could change after.
@chatcontrol Germany's stupidity. And we keep electing these people over and over again. Feeling so ashamed of us. So many shameful things been done in the last couple of years. I wish I had a job offer in some saner EU country and could migrate away. I should be applying in other EU countries to make it happen. Maybe go to Finland or something.
@chatcontrol Germany wants their Stasi back...
@chatcontrol funny, most countries that have experienced socialism/communism are against it, they know what it is. Other countries are seemingly naive and blind to the consequences…
@chatcontrol
Email went out to my representatives!
@WhiteHatTux @chatcontrol every time someone pushes for it, they should get all the mail send before without anyone sending again.
Our stances haven't changed, as their intentions haven't changed.
@chatcontrol you have to count on Germany supporting it, as we have a right conservative party in power with a partner that will carry everything those conservatives want and say they really have a bad stomach ache with it.
Most of them have a hard on for surveillance at least of the common citizen, of course not for politicians where surveillance would be needed
@SomeAnoTooter @chatcontrol Let's try not to be so negative. Let's hope and fight against this.
@chatcontrol Germania useless as always πŸ™‚β€β†•οΈ
@chatcontrol The folks arming a genocide as we speak want more surveillance? Say it ain’t so!
