@Motorod Watching George get stepped on, lots of times even after it happened, I feel choked up.

When I hear people talking about Kirk, I scroll by.

I have more sympathy for Mr. Floyd than the other man. I wish I knew why.

@Aoi_X_Kaizaki @Motorod Kirk was killed in the midst of scapegoating trans people as killers. Irony never sleeps.
@Motorod
Möge er in der Hölle schmoren.

@Motorod

The far right killed Kirk, the further, crazier, far right.

@kevinrns @Motorod
Something something stop a bad guy with a gun something something.

@Motorod There’s also a conflation that’s happening, such that failing to condemn Kirk’s death AND to mourn him without referring to or quoting his actual words is equivalent to celebration and endorsement of murder, whereas calling for the officers who caused or failed to stop Floyd’s death to be tried for it means lionization of Floyd.

Using performative/real/socially coerced moral outrage to get opponents on the burdensome defensive is how these people’s views dominate.

@WhiteCatTamer @Motorod Spot on, and so infuriating and disrespectful that they think we are that stupid.
@Motorod Best post I’ve read regarding the infuriating double standard around this topic.
@Motorod Not gonna lie, they had me in the first half

@stux @Motorod true

i skipped the first paragraph, then read george floyd, the returned to understand what happened xd

@Motorod wait, did Kirk really said the first paragraph?

@alihan_banan @Motorod i think only the sentences in quotes are citations.

But i think we all need to verify everything (inc. quotes) about him, i’ve seen people on the left jumping to conclusion faster than i’m comfortable with, if we want to convince people on the right that we are right, we need to make sure we have more than some unverified and out of context quotes. I see people who had a *very* different vision of him than me, and they clearly spent a lot of time listening to him.

@tshirtman @alihan_banan @Motorod “if we want to convince people on the right that we are right, we need to make sure we have more than some unverified and out of context quotes”

if we want to convince people on the right that we are right, we need to make sure we have more bullshit hooked up to the firehose of fiction than they can fact check.

FTFY

As we all should know by now, you don’t fight disinformation with information. They can produce 5x more disinformation than you can fact check. Hit them with an overwhelming flood of counter disinformation hard enough to make them lose track of reality. Flood them with so many lies that they begin to believe some of them. Go on the offensive and target beliefs they weren’t prepared to form opinions on. We’re talking about Charlie Kirk, racism, the woke brain left? Hit their favorite restaurant and a church they used to go to. Talk about how they discovered a pedophile ring in the Sunday school. Then switch to the nanoplastic injections of the beef patties. Keep the target moving faster than they can respond.

@ClickyMcTicker @alihan_banan @Motorod yeah no, i’m not on that team, sorry, if they catch us doing the same, they’ll stop listening to us, i know i can’t convince the people who aren’t going to even check things, but some will, if i give them something that seem worth checking. But if i give them bad things a couple times, i’ll lose them. People who are not full of hate when i talk to them, but when they see opinions from the left, it’s the most foreign to them so they think the left is crazy.
@tshirtman @ClickyMcTicker @Motorod yeah, keeping the integrity and consistency is important, but being polite and politically correct, while far right lunatics spit out "they are eating the dogs" bs and directly tell people that some people can be killed because they are "libs" or "wrong conservatives" etc, it just seems like knocking on the wrong door. I think left needs someone like Zohran Mamdani to be hyped up more - charismatic, honest, young and consistent politician.
@tshirtman @Motorod yeah, context is needed, but even the quotes context won't override who spoke those words and Charlie Kirk is just a good for nothing podcaster who made his career by taunting people and pitting alt right lunatics against everybody else, while manufacturing consent for every horrible thing that was done by the US government to the US citizens and many foreign nations
@Motorod
America, Goddamn.

He was killed on camera. No one’s family deserves to have to witness that. It’s unthinkably cruel that people would then go on the internet and use their platform to say about an innocent man that “I don’t care that he’s dead.” “He’s not a hero.” “He’s a scumbag.” “He shouldn’t be celebrated.”

I’m talking about George Floyd. You thought I was talking about Charlie Kirk? No, those are actual quotes BY Charlie Kirk about George Floyd. Outrageous that anyone would say that of the dead, right?

@Motorod What frustrates me is that there are people now who get upset with the idea that "Neither George Floyd nor Charlie Kirk deserved to be killed." There's this sense that if you don't celebrate his death you agree with him.

How strong our morals are depend on how universally we are willing to apply them. It just so happens that one of mine is "no one deserves to be murdered". Even piece of shit humans.

Deplatformed? Sure. Jailed? Maybe, hard to say, some of what he said is borderline in my view. Murdered? No.

@Motorod

George Floyd wasn't a bigot spreading misinformation and lies to millions.

@contrasocial @Motorod Also, Floyd wasn't doing anything wrong when he was killed, in contrast to Kirk, who was scapegoating for pay.

@Motorod

I dont recall George Floyd using his platform to spread hate and bigotry. Not even a little bit the same.

This kind of "Both Sides" BS is what gets us into this mess.

Get it together please...

@sleepy62 @Motorod the quote is clearly using that framing to show that Charlie Kirk was bad, not to make a both sides equivalency.

@sleepy62 @Motorod

You really need better reading comprehension. That is not what the post says at all.

@sleepy62 @Motorod Uhm…please read carefully. It’s not a “Both Sides” post.

The post doesn’t say George Floyd did that. It says “people” - alluding to the people reacting to Kirk’s death positively.

Then, in the second paragraph, it turns out that the “people” being alluded to is actually Kirk talking about Floyd.

@Motorod
I think Chuckles own words help us all understand who he was & how he should be remembered
