This puts a big dent in my trust!
One person's journalist is another's hacktivist. Even if the hacktivity is admirable Proton is likely to block accounts doing verified illegal activity. Even so, it sounds like they don't lock all parts of the account. (Ie they were using Proton pass) unless they suspect the account was stolen from someone. I'm not saying what proton is "good". But it's what can be expected.

@Daojoan sounds like everyone who is doing anything with IT Security is better staying away from Proton.
It happens so fast, that finding an issue ends up in accusations of hacking
