We've made it to another Friday, and here is a new set of books and ARCs that have come to the Scalzi Compound. What here is piquing your interest?
@scalzi
While all of them look interesting, the bottom two - particularly the Jemisin book - look like ones I'd actually go out and look for.
@scalzi "The Ink Witch" sounds like a discount "Witch Hat Atelier"
@scalzi The City We Became is, unsurprisingly, excellent.

@scalzi lucky me, I haven't heard of a single one of these titles, lots of reading to be had :)

Just by the titles, I think "Trail of Shadows" and "The ink witch" sound intriguing.

@scalzi Oooh, you're just now getting _The City We Became_? Loved that one, and the sequel.

@tstooth I really should read more Jemisin. The Broken Earth trilogy was fantastic.

@scalzi

@veronica @scalzi

I've read and loved all her books. My favorites were the Dreamblood duology because I have an ancient history jones, but all of them have been wonderful, challenging, emotionally mature works.

@veronica @tstooth @scalzi

The City We Became is very different (she has amazing range). It’s quite hard reading because of how on-point the social commentary is. If anything it’s become even more so since it was published. 100% recommended. As always, phenomenal world building and engaging characters.

@veronica @tstooth @david_chisnall @scalzi If you like audio books, The City We Became is _amazing_.

@phiala @veronica @scalzi

That doesn't surprise me. Even in my head while I was reading it, it sounded amazing. 😄

@scalzi The Jemisin, I'd pick up and read on name value alone.
My first thought was that
The Ballad of Jayce, from its title, was highly likely more-or-less Firefly fanfic ("official" or otherwise). But then I remembered that that's Jayne, not Jayce. So I got nothin' on that one, after all.
I can't judge anything about any of the others based solely on author and title.
@scalzi definitely the bottom two.
@scalzi I enjoyed The City We Became

@scalzi definitely The City We Became, but mostly because i'm in the middle of reading it now lol.

You can put me down as curious about Song of Spores. =)

@scalzi Punctilious Punctuation sounds like my bag. And the Jemisin book.
@scalzi huh, I thought Peter Straub died a few years back. Pleasantly surprised to be wrong!
@scalzi Loved loved loved City We Became. It's (more than) a little preachy in spots, but both the concept and the writing are really great!
@scalzi The City We Became is an excellent read!

@scalzi You have an impressive tbr pile. It makes me feel inadequate.

Kudos.

@scalzi the Ink Witch and Trail of Shadows look intriguing.
@scalzi I found the "City we Became" arc quite good and thought provoking. I particularly like the symbolism between humans being a bunch of cells all doing their jobs becoming an individual, and cities with all of their populations becoming sentient. The idea that life is based on collaboration is pretty neat.
