All these people falling over themselves to praise Charlie Kirk worry me way more than whoever killed him. It's not a great sign when we can't condemn a man like Kirk.

If we want political violence to end, we *must* be able to condemn people like Charlie Kirk long before it comes to violence. People who are openly proud of their lack of empathy and who work hard to spread hatred of others belong in psychiatric care or prison, not at the head of political organizations.

@stveje they see more of themselves in Kirk than they have in common with the rest of us I fear.

This. Right here.
@stveje if anything had been done in the past 10-20 years to stop fascism, if we had a government or military that could be appealed to, the citizens would not feel the need to take things into their own hands. But nothing was done, and our government doesn't represent us. So yeah, this is what happens. Citizens have a duty to fight for democracy when the government fails. Our "representatives" may as well have told the shooter to do it. That's what their inaction telegraphed.
@stveje @bartt Let's conclude that before you propagate violence you should realize violence can go both ways. He reaped what he sowed. Don't expect people to be nice if you're an asshole.
@stveje One of my bosses was just saying he's as important as MLK. 😬
@gudenau I heard someone on the radio compare him to MLK, too, and I can’t even. What the fuck is wrong with the world? Seriously.

@stveje @gudenau Charlie Kirk on MLK: "MLK was awful. He's not a good person."

@stveje careful tho - it may have been a fascist who killed him. Aryan nation nazis and fascists didn't like Kirk or Richard Spenser, and there were threats. They could very well be behind this, AND THEN the state fascists will 'Horst Wessel' Kirk. They are doing it as we speak along with neoliberal politicians. They are pretending this basic hate speech thug was some hero, like Hitler's Reich used street thug Horst Wessel's death to consolidate power.

@stveje

They're not praising him for calling for the release of the full Epstein files. They're praising him for his fascism.

If we want political violence to "end" we have to stop those who perpetrate it.
