On this day in 1966, Star Trek first beamed into living rooms across America. None of us could have imagined then the journey it would set us on. And not just the cast and crew, but the millions of fans who would find hope, inspiration, and community in its vision of the future.

Over the decades, Iโ€™ve been humbled and grateful for the love youโ€™ve shown, not only to me, but to the ideals of Star Trek itself: diversity, unity, and the belief that together, humanity can boldly go where none have gone before. Thank you for your unwavering support and for keeping this dream alive all these years. Live long and prosper, always.

@georgetakei I started 'following' you in 1972 when german television took Star Trek into its program. Thank you so much.
@Thomas1108 I'm happy to still have you along for the journey, friend.
@georgetakei It's a different universe, but may the Force be with us... ๐Ÿ––
@George Takei :verified: ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿฝ Believe it or not, but I had absolutely no idea who you were when I started following you.

Not a fan of Star Trek, the genre just isn't my cup of tea. I started following you because of the things you posted, they made a lot of sense.

Thank you for your presence here on the Fediverse and the wisdom you post, you make it an even better place ๐Ÿ‘

@georgetakei

Star Trek, and you, have been a part of my life since my earliest memories.

Both are treasured.

@georgetakei So glad you are still going boldly - you embody the Starfleet ideals that your government has discarded.
@georgetakei Thank you for all of your art and for sharing your perspective, all this time!

Thank you... @georgetakei

For the entertainment and the thought-provoking questions raised throughout. In short, thank you for your service, not just to the US, but to global human values worth their weight in gold!

@georgetakei
I'm scared about what's going to happen to Star Trek now that the company that owns it has gone in a direction completely at odds with its principles.
@georgetakei Thank you for what you gave us Uncle George. Your contribution to television and film as a person of Asian descent is one of the reasons I love Star Trek.

@georgetakei

The hope in humanity that Star Trek displayed was ahead of its time.

It showed "we don't have to live this way" to millions of people.

We don't have to accept corruption.

We don't have apathetically sit by & watch as the planet fries.

We don't have to tolerate dictatorship.

We don't have to live with an economy rigged against the very premise of "Live Long & Prosper" by selfish billionaires.

@georgetakei
All you wonderful people behind and in front of the cameras changed my life. You are a part of my heart, many thanks.
@georgetakei from The Netherlands from a 68 years old fan: Live long and proper
@georgetakei thank YOU sir for being part of Star Trek. I've been re-watching the old series and many of the stories are surprisingly good. Star Trek was ahead of the time in so many ways.
@georgetakei Thank you for being one of the most badass Captains in Starfleet
@georgetakei
Thanks for putting up with Bill's crap and making a truly inspiring show. I appreciate it. ๐Ÿ––

@georgetakei This turned out to be a very special project for a lot of people.

I know you've heard a million of these stories, so I won't imagine you'll make time to indulge mine, but I'll share it anyway: dad had (on Betamax) every episode of the original series except one, which he meticulously recorded from the Harrisburg airwaves over a summer or so, then re-recorded to drop the commercials. I was born in the '80s and it was one of the first shows I was ever familiar with; I don't know if Dad watched it with me at first or if I found the tapes in the collection and started putting them in, but it was on-background for most of my childhood from 3 to 12 at least. Next Generation then hit at just the right time to catch me, and dad and I watched it together for years. It didn't hurt that the character of Wesley Crusher was just a touch older than me and sort of became the fictional big brother I didn't have.

Thank you for making something that ended up very important in my life. It's a series I've come back to again and again as I've gotten older, and it's meant something different every time. You and your co-stars got the ball rolling on something very special, and I'm grateful for it.

@georgetakei
All these years and Iโ€™ve never gotten tired at all of watching the episodes. Something Iโ€™ve always wondered to myself is when did it become apparent to the actors and people involved that Star Trek was going to become such a culturally influential show. There mustโ€™ve been a point where you are sitting back having a glass of wine and saying to yourself, โ€œDamn, this has really become quite something.โ€
@georgetakei Happy Trekkie Day ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿš€

@georgetakei

Mr. T, you have been an amazing inspiration for so many of us. You and Nichele especially. I will always cherish the two conventions I got to share with all of you so many years ago in Colorado. I still have the photos, memorabilia and memories from those days. You won't remember each of us, but we remember you sir. The franchise inspired my art and writing. Told me that a black, queer person CAN do something meaningful. Humble blessings to you and yours! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

@georgetakei the ideals of Star Trek and that millions of fans believe in exactly this, let me hope that humanity has a future, that not is all just bad. But that doesn't fall into anyone's lap. You have to stand up and do something yourself. Everyone to their own best and skills. You can share with others, join forces. You can also fight or just pass on knowledge. The only important thing is that you do something yourself and don't just complain. With that in mind, I'd rather thank you George and everyone else who gets up and does something. Thank you from far away Germany.
@georgetakei Just finished a Strange New Worlds episode, perfect timing. So glad that Star Trek is still going strong.
@georgetakei I like telling people that I am older than Star Trek.
@georgetakei Thank you, Mr Takei, for leading by example with thoughtfulness & compassion. Youโ€™ve helped enrich not only Star Trek, but culture at large.
@georgetakei I was born in '65 so it wasn't until the early '70's that I first discovered Star Trek. My babysitters husband LOVED the show, and my parents were late picking me up, and I got to see it for the first time. I'll say this, I will die with the words "live long and prosper" on my lips. Forgive me for taking the liberty with Spock. He was MY MAN.
@georgetakei
Hard to think of a TV show that has transformed our culture more thoroughly. We owe so much to you all! Especially you and Michelle! Thank you so much!!!
@georgetakei
The first Star Trek series I watched was TNG. I got hooked. Then I followed along (DS9, VOY...) till "Enterprise".
After Enterprise, I finally thought : "Why not watch TOS now ? But it's a bit outdated isn't it ?"
I was so wrong...everything was there : the ethics, the thrill, the mind-fuck experience, and the humor (which has indeed faded in the following series).
And now I'm answering to a post by a prominent actor of this wonderful series on Mastodon...isn't life great ? :)

@georgetakei thank you for boldly going where no one has gone before and for continuing to go boldly!

I am immensely grateful to you and and the whole Star Trek Universe - to bring it to The Next Generation for a minute, "Hmmm... Well... maybe... it's worth giving up cigars for, after all." -- Samuel Clemens

@georgetakei
Have watched all the originals. Then more. Yโ€™all set the tone for thoughtful space travel. Hope that it become real in some future stardate and that they name a spaceship for you. But now on on planet Earth, I respect you more as a person for your posts. ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿผ
@georgetakei I'm sure D Trump would not have approved. Aged 7, the programme left its indelible mark on me. Thank you, George, for continuing "to boldly go".

@georgetakei

#OTD #StarTrek began shaping the 7 yo grrrl I was into the #Nonbinary #AntiRacist person I've become

Each series opened new frontiers and pushed back against social straight-jackets by envisioning a future Free Of Them

That vision is still needed, perhaps more now than ever, as oligarchic autocracy spreads around the globe.

Thank you, @georgetakei , for representing that vision on #Mastodon with compassion, humor, & ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿฝ

@georgetakei
As the Jewish birthday greeting goes (because that was Moses' age) โ€” until 120!

Congratulations and many more years!!

@georgetakei Thank you for continuing the mission! ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿ––

@georgetakei

Thank you for helping to bring us something so wonderfully inspiring!

@georgetakei ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
@georgetakei you are truly a voice of hope in the darkness. The perfect ambassador for a hopeful TV show and vision. Thank you George. ๐Ÿ––
