Surprising absolutely no one, The Browser Company has been acquired.

@viticci by Atlassian omg 😂
@viticci well if their goal is to have a lot of users instead of building something people love, Atlassian sounds like a perfect match.
@viticci I don’t I’ll ever stop laughing at this acquisition… 😆
@viticci “We will operate independently” - yep. Also, how are they worth that amount?

@viticci “Arc and Arc Search will continue to exist”

I’m guessing they didn’t use the prompt “please make this line sound more reassuring rather than deeply ominous”

@craiggrannell @viticci I would have gone with “Arc and Arc Search remain products in our lineup” 😆
@viticci Wait, why is this so unsurprising? I'm not familiar with it. Are they an enshittifier?
@FishNamedDog @viticci tbh I’d rather have Atlassian than their current leadership. And to answer your question: The Browser Company has been bleeding money, dropped the product that put them on the map in favor of building a product the CEO‘s mom would use. If you are not familiar with Atlassian: they don’t usually dabble with end-user products but the rest of their toolkit pretty much covers the entire software development process (Source Controll, Ticketing, documentation etc.)
@hiiaminfi @viticci ah ok thanks!

@FishNamedDog @viticci

I mean don’t misread this: Both of their browsers are doomed. But they were doomed anyway.

I think this video is a pretty good rundown of this situation if you are interested:

Arc just got acquired...by Atlassian???

YouTube
@viticci would be nice if they “ressurected” Arc with this cash
@viticci Meet their new browser: Arclassian!
@viticci I’m a trained Jira admin and manage Confluence, too. I only have something like 2 years of experience, but it’s enough for me to say ”Hmm, did they need more web developers?”. I hope Arc can bring something to the table in Atlassian. Maybe swap out their memory-hungry Java code with speedy Swift server code? 😉. I know, it’s not going to happen, but one can dream.
@viticci Arc was dying, it is now definitely buried ⚰️
@viticci @craiggrannell Turns out it was all about the money after all.
@viticci
my first take: omg finally someone who cares about browsers!
my second take: oh, I see what this is
today: yes, exactly
