Lucky for you I've coined yet another term... now before you get too excited, it is about meritocracy. The first simul-post on both the website: https://nonzerosum.games/effortocracy.html and the podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/nz/podcast/non-zero-sum-james/id1810797958?i=1000724095751 Choose whichever is least painful. #Meritocracy #Society #Policy #DEI
EFFORTOCRACY

Exploring the concept of Effortocracy, a society where rewards reflect effort, contrasting it with traditional meritocracy based on achievements.

@nonzerosumjames Great read! Glossing over how to measure things: if you're utilitarian (maximum benefit to all) wouldn't you also want to take 'talent/natural predisposition' and achievement into account at _some_ point? Should a certain clumsy sports team or surgeon always get to win - just because they trained longer hours? Effort might be a good predictor of long-term success - but it's not the only variable. Equal opportunity does not affect game/world mechanics that lead to inequality.

@tijl Yes, I've tried to acknowledge these variables (individual talent, utilitarian reward) in the text. When I think about equality of outcome I mean in terms of reward, for demographics, not vocations for individuals.

The idea of "Lost Einsteins" acknowledges that there are people particularly suited to important breakthroughs. I also mention that utilitarian achievements get rewarded naturally, the financial rewards for people's efforts don't though, which is unfair, and could be mitigated.

@nonzerosumjames mr james you like my comment now you will find me everywhere... im just so sigma
