My long dormant collaborative, crowd sourced, creative commons cc-by-sa licensed podcast about the crew of a spaceship in the distant future is in the slow process of awakening from hibernation.

We have a video game (beta out now, full release sometime this fall), a comic book in the works, and a line of action figures (from @MountainTownToys ) in progress.

We've been recruiting new crew people, and I'm getting a bunch of the technical stuff sorted so that we can have a much fuller #rp #roleplay experience.

Post by James Andrews [Jupiter's Ghost], @[email protected]

Greetings solar federation. It is I, James Andrews, the sporadic record keeper for the starship #JupitersGhost I come with news! Several newses in fact! Our up to now very irregular mission logs are set to return soon and, as a result, we're looking for new people to join the crew of our starshi...

If you're interested in joining the crew of the #JupitersGhost or starting your own #solarFederation setting, get in touch with me or @jandrews

If you're intrigued, but want more information...

Well you can start at https://intergalactic.computer or https://intergalactic.computer/social

but also give me a few minutes to get to a real keyboard and I'll wax poetic about what this project is supposed to be and why it exists and why I think it's more relevant now than ever and what I hope you'll get out of it.

Alright, so what is this #JupitersGhost thing I've been talking about for, god nearly 10 years?

This is a history post. After the history post I'll do a more concise pitch. Feel free to ignore this if you're only interested in the current state of the world, and not how we got here.

I started working on Jupiter's Ghost in 2016 or thereabouts. The earliest doc I can find has a created date of November 2016, but it isn't the original proposal, so sometime before that.

The initial proposal was basically my response to that old tumblr post about humans as space orcs. I wrote a bunch of backstory and then wrote about a couple of characters on a spaceship getting lost in deep space and I shared it with some friends.

Several rounds of riffing later and the Space Orc element had fallen by the wayside, and the focus was instead on collaborative/roleplay centered storytelling in a shared science fiction universe.

Over the following years a bunch of us worked together on this concept, building the universe out into something pretty broad (which I'll discuss in more detail in the next post.)

So, what is #JupitersGhost / #Intergalactic.social / the #SolarFederation

Ever dreamed of stepping into the background of your favorite sci-fi show? To explore deep space, make a home on a distant station, or be part of a crew navigating a vast, complex galaxy? Your chance is here!

Intergalactic Social is a collaborative fiction site and the central hub for the Solar Federation Universe.

Think of it as an in-character social network where you can create a character and help build an open, shared universe alongside other creators. All content is licensed CC-BY-SA, so the stories we tell together are free to grow and evolve!

What’s It All About?

It's 1,000 years from now. The #SolarFederation, once a shining utopia, is showing cracks of authoritarianism. In its shadow, the Space Corps, a volunteer, non-military mutual aid organization, flies missions to help those in need.

Their flagship, the #JupitersGhost, is a refitted battle cruiser that’s seen better days. With a crew of ~160 scientists, engineers, and cadets, it’s a home away from home, constantly being repaired as it journeys into the unknown.

Meet the Neighbors!

The universe is full of life! Your human character will interact with fantastic alien species, including:

- The Randross: Giant, comically warlike teddy-bear people who adore humanity's resilience. They live by a code of honor, speak in enthusiastic shouts, and believe combat is the highest glory.

- The Verbenubi: Short, excitable "Nerds" from Aldebaran who are obsessed with ancient Earth pop culture. They communicate in technobabble, are largely non-gendered and aromantic, and choose their own names from old media.

- The Silent Helpers: Robots! Who made them? No one knows. They're sentient, and they're weird.

The story unfolds across multiple platforms! The narrative is driven by the Jupiter’s Ghost podcast (find it wherever you get your podcasts!), while Intergalactic Social is where the day-to-day life of the universe happens.

You can join an existing setting (like the bustling starship Jupiter’s Ghost) or work with admins to create your own ship, planet, or space station!

@ajroach42 @jandrews soooooo is the ssh-able environment still part of this? I liked the email interface a lot, and wouldn't mind having another go at it whether it's a shell environment or not this time around.
@jakimfett @ajroach42 the plan is to get that box back online eventually, but I'm not ready for that yet.
