@cos @SwiftOnSecurity I did something similar years ago, the GitHub is a bit broken but there's a write-up at https://github.com/blinken/paradar. The main innovation was an accelerometer so that the LED always points at the plane.

I built it for paragliding, and I wanted to add FLARM but it's a proprietary/patented protocol and extremely expensive to license - iirc they wanted a licence fee of €50-€100 per finished unit when I asked.

@blinken @SwiftOnSecurity yeah Flarm is a proprietary protocol that shouldn't have been taken into wide use.

But the protocol has been cracked and it's possible to receive. Whole open gliding network is based on this.
