Damn, this week is the week where friends of mine are messaging me with their SNCF problems!

Now a SNCF train manager is telling a German friend of mine a telephone number MUST be displayed on each item of luggage

I have just checked the latest SNCF terms and NO that is NOT TRUE. It is *still* only name and surname

Update note and link to the law added to my blog post on this:
https://jonworth.eu/how-to-not-fall-foul-of-sncfs-luggage-rules/

@jon ye gods, they are now trying to gotcha people for not having good enough luggage labels now ?!?!? Fucking morons.
@quixoticgeek @jon I think the 'now' is incorrect. This has been a notorious SNCF scam for years.
@jon is there an SNCF uniform and ID card regulations that the staff have to follow? I'm pondering the need to return fire...
@jon Can we find out the phone number of SNCF’s legal department? Seems like a good option to put on the label …
@partim @jon the only way to deal with a legal department is in writing, preferably recorded delivery.
@peterbrown @jon I have no intention to deal with them, but maybe they can give the guard legal advice vis-a-vis their terms of service.
@jon You'll notice on the tag they give that only nom and prénom are marked with asterisks as being 'renseignements obligatoires'.

@siegeavecvue i love that their spiel telling you how sustainable the paper is means they have to use twice the paper and ~5 times the ink. glorious

@jon

@jon @albertcardona Asking for suggestions, but "I have no time for this" is a reasonable answer.
I am planning a (train) trip Barcelona - Genève, and the best connection I can see is RENFE AVE to Lyon Part Dieu followed by SNCF TER to Genève.
Of course neither RENFE nor SNCF will offer the connection, I only found it in SBB (which can't sell it anyway). Doubts:
* Is it safe to have 1h 18min waiting time in Lyon, or should I plan for more?
* If I chose a certain TER train, is the ticket valid for a later one on the same day?
* Do you suggest a totally different connection, maybe?

@quim_roe @jon

Choices are sensible to me, including the waiting time. The TGV shouldn't arrive late to Lyon, or at least not that late that you'd miss the connection.

@quim_roe @albertcardona do it. The TER ticket is valid on any TER. Book Renfe train with Renfe and the TER with @12train

@quim_roe @jon @albertcardona Very sensible connection, especially in this direction as you can take a later TER as mentioned.

In the other direction I've taken an early TER in case and (as it was on time) enjoyed a nice lunch break in Lyon (lots of restaurant options reachable via metro or the city's rental bicycles, also the large city park is nearby).
