Egon Willigh☮gen 🟥@anna yeah, I always booked in arriving a default 30 minute delay in Venlo. So much looking forward when in 2026 there should be a direct train Eindhoven-Dusseldorf (tho just to Moenchengladbach would be fine to me too)
@egonw In this case, the issue is that my train from Venlo to Düsseldorf is cancelled. Train from Utrecht to Venlo is still on time. I planned 4 hours leeway, just in case of heavy Deutsche-Bahning, so I'll get to my destination eventually, but I don't have that luxury for my return journey so... fingers crossed!

I’m on the floor of a replacement bus from Venlo to Mönchengladbach. According to the Deutsche Bahn app of another bus floor dweller, we will arrive in Mönchengladbach at 13h37. I need to get to St. Wendel. The bus I need to take from St. Wendel departs at 16:31. Will obviously miss that one. Next busses depart at 18:31 and 20:31. It seems like I have 2 options to get to st Wendel from Mönchengladbach: 1. Try to catch 13:41 train (optimistic), then continue with only 2 transfers to arrive in st. Ik zou de verbinding met minder overstappen proberen te halen en dineren in St. Wendel. (Wat ik niet ken. Alles dicht op zondagavond??) Ik zie een Indiaas restaurant vlakbij het station, zijn zo te zien open vanavond.
@ednl ja, dineren is een optie. Aan de andere kant; er is altijd nog een kans dat ik mensen tegenkom die op weg zijn naar dezelfde workshop en wél een taxi hebben geboekt, en misschien een lift regelen? Ik heb geen taxi geboekt, wetende dat ik toch geen idee zou hebben van wanneer ik aan zou komen met Deutsche Bahn.
Probleem is wel dat ik bijna niemand ken die naar de workshop gaat. Heb waar mogelijk wel van iedereen de website opgezocht, maar dat betekent niet dat ik ze zomaar herken.
@anna Ooo, medereizigers naar dezelfde bestemming, daar had ik niet aan gedacht. Gat in de markt: pre-conference slack meetup. Kun je je mede-shoppers mailen/berichten? Als je hen nog op een vrij normale manier op korte termijn kunt bereiken, dan zou ik dat zeker proberen.

@blackcoffeerider Ya, the train conductor was also like "Girl, this train gets cancelled all the time. You should've known that! You should've checked the train schedule before you left." and I was like "this train was cancelled literally 5 minutes ago and its cancellation isn't even in the Deutsche Bahn app yet."
I mean: I planned my travels such that I have 4 hours leeway in case of heavy Deutsche-Bahning, so it will be more uncomfortable, but I guess I'll get to my destination eventually, but I was still optimistic, for some reason...
Sorry to hear... The problem imho is that the DB is 50% privatised and 50% state owned. So one side thinks money saving the other one service... But you never know which side someone in management is so nobody talks to anyone ever...
@blackcoffeerider train driver said they do it on purpose as a service to make our lives less predictable and more interesting.
