Never under estimate how many people have their head in the sand (or more scatological places) I have to often remind myself of my biases concerning awareness and an ability to follow logical deduction. Many folks, especially those in more neurotypical situations, simply dont process all the data they consume. It's too much so it just passes over/thru without altering their trajectory much.
