Alas, it is time for more uncomfortable questions, in this case regarding the announced Android developer verification program: https://commonsware.com/blog/2025/08/26/uncomfortable-questions-android-developer-verification.html #AndroidDev
Uncomfortable Questions About Android Developer Verification

Google announced a program that is proving to be unpopular among Android app development experts. I have questions.

CommonsWare: Android App Development Books
@commonsguy AFAICS the only meaningful answer is to leave **altogether** #Android and #iOS development, returning to #Web, or turning to #PWA or even better to switch to #LinuxSmartphones
@paoloredaelli @commonsguy Hell-fucking-no! The modern web is the worst invention of the s. XXI and it should be deleted from the Earth at the same time as the people who invented it.

And Linux phones aren't that ready for the "normal" people to handle.
@captainepoch what solution do you propose then? @commonsguy
@paoloredaelli @commonsguy The web is not the solution, it's the modern cancer of technology.

And Linux phones won't be ready, ever, for normal people, because normal people want everything to work and to not deal with issues, not on their phone, not on their computers. Why do you think the iPhone is sold so much?

The only solution will be that users and developers stand up to Google and say "Go and fuck yourself, either stop this non-sense, or find people to use your products", but people won't do it, because they don't care, they don't want to deal with these kind of problems.
@captainepoch, @commonsguy and @paoloredaelli, the issue isn't about how good the technology web or GNU-like programs are for mobile, but with public services being vendor-locked into Android and iOS. It doesn't matter if a proper pooter is better for every pootational tasks if everyone is required to carry a phone owned by Google or Apple to use money or move around.
@cnx @commonsguy @paoloredaelli That's what I mean when I say "normal people".

Go and tell a normal person to move to a GNU/Linux phone, where (s)he doesn't have whatever application you want to mention, and see how fast (s)he changes to Android/iOS again.

People don't care about GNU/Linux phones, and we're not getting anything there because companies don't care too.
@captainepoch it's sad but it's true.
I'm convinced that we must fight this #dystopic attack to people #freedom. #AndroidIsNotAFreeEcosystem, not anymore 🤬 @commonsguy @cnx
