Dear lazywebs, type & design Mastodon edition:

Max Bill vs Jan Tschichold; Wim Crouwel vs Jan van Toorn; Massimo Vignelli vs a bunch of New Yorkers—what other type and graphic-design debates/controversies in person/in print/online stand out for you in the history of those fields?

Bonus appreciation for suggestions that don't involve white dudes talking to/arguing with other white dudes.

@MauriceMeilleur Apparently no one went for the bonus yet. Alphabettes’s It’s time to act was a milestone debate. https://www.alphabettes.org/its-time-to-act/

And of course the mothers of it all: Hedonist marketing https://typographica.org/on-typography/sexism-and-fonts/
Diversifying Type Drawers et al ff https://typedrawers.com/discussion/1049/diversifying-typedrawers
https://typedrawers.com/discussion/1198/diversification-postmortem
Plus many more.
Happy 10 years anniversary, @alphabettes!

@kupfers @MauriceMeilleur @alphabettes Opened the typedrawers thread, and now my eye is twitching.
@AleksandraSamulenkova @MauriceMeilleur @alphabettes Always FUN to read through it every once in a while 🫠
Looking back, I wish the discussion had been less binary and more intersectional from the very beginning but at least internally we moved towards that. Nowadays, promoting and protecting non-binary, trans, BIPOC other international peers seems more crucial even. At least in the USA.
