If Trump came for their guns they’d lay them down for him.
@georgetakei The good guys with guns are nowhere to be seen, unless they're menacimg those actually fighting against tyranny. Their bravery and willingnessto die for freedom evaporates when they're not waving a sidearm at people for being a colour other than beige outside of a Walmart, just like weknew it would.
@georgetakei because it was never about the government, it was always about fear of the other. And the other was always non-white.
@georgetakei this is the root of why you can't have nice things like no school shooter drills, universal health care and a social safety net in the US.
@georgetakei I bring this up because I have watched people wrap themselves in intellectual circles to explain recent events when "fear of the other" is enough to explain the NRA, Trump and Project 2025
@georgetakei it's not tyranny for them if the corporations are feeling happy and the government not identifies as leftist
@georgetakei
Not only would they lay them down for him, but they would also tell him who else has guns. All for a person that keeps robbing them with each new executive order.

@Npars01 @georgetakei

Gun owner here. The NRA does not represent gun owners. It represents gun manufacturers, the rich, and the GOP.

@LevZadov @Npars01 @georgetakei The NRA promoted licensing & safety into the ‘60s. They did a 180° in ‘70s.

@stevewfolds @LevZadov @georgetakei

The question is why? Why in the 70's and not before?

Answer?
The NRA became an ally of white supremacy after the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

That's how freaked out white Americans became about a multiracial, pluralistic slightly fairer democracy.

@Npars01 @georgetakei you seem to picture anticommunism as a good thing, which is funny. What is even funnier is that the article speaks about possible corruption by the 2000's Russia, that can hardly be described as communist and is much closer to the current US regime.

@alci @georgetakei

For Republicans, "anti-communism" no longer means opposing the military & economic ambitions of Putin or Xi. It used to.

It now means stopping unions. It means wage suppression schemes. It means no minimum wage. No OSHA. No NLRB. No EPA or FDA. It means employment precarity.

It means eliminating all social safety net programs like SNAP, school lunches, social security, public health, public education, libraries, & medicaid.

@georgetakei I'll go ahead and leave this here so misunderstandings about the NRA and their positions don't continue :p

The #GunCult
One of several under the #KKKults of Trump.
@georgetakei there's really one "adjective" they know about, it's people-that-are-not-us. Replace every adjective they use with that and everything makes sense.

@georgetakei

They absolutely did not forget.

@georgetakei Seen from outside the US, I have to ask, if they give up their guns, isn’t that a good thing? Confused , as fewer guns means fewer shootings, no?
@MrInappropriate
But they just see shootings as part of the bargain. Not really important to them at all... Just another day in Amerika...
@BluesHarp It is incomprehensible to us in Europe/UK. There is fallacy in every part of “guns protect us, so get more guns”.
@MrInappropriate
Well people here are not rational at all. They will just keep repeating somethiing like "They are coming for our guns" or "Our Second A,mendment rights are under attack". Because all they care about is their guns. We call them ammosexuals because that is what they are. Yeah, it makes no sense. But the politicians are cowards.
@BluesHarp I understood that it was the right to bear arms as part of an organised militia. Clearly I know little about it, but have observed the mass shootings with horror. We lived v close to Dunblane, and that one shooting changed everything in Scotland ( & UK). As a vet I had to part with my gun for putting large animals down, and use a captive bolt instead ( or lethal injection, obviously), as the local police , who carried out the annual gun cabinet checks made it more onerous to comply each year. I never heard a single complaint from anyone who had to give up their gun, or to jump through hoops to retain their licence, and I was in a farm practice with lots of deer stalking/ grouse and pheasant shooting. We’re clearly a very different people.

@MrInappropriate
Correct. Americans are not sane at all. It is always about "me, me, me". There is no thought about your fellow man at all. It is a very sick society frankly. Not healthy at all. And now the government is trying to kick people off of healthcare so that the billionaires can buy a new yacht.

We are screwed at this point... I want to leave.

@BluesHarp It appears, from talking to friends, that you’re not alone. I hope you, personally and as a nation, can find a sane, sensible solution.
@MrInappropriate
Unfortunately we have a convicted felon in the White House. It just amazes me that Americans were this stupid. And now the clown has a 40% approval rating. So the majority don't trust him and don't like him. It truly is sad. There is no US anymore. It's just a bunch of people living under dictatorship now. But we won't give up the resistance either. The fight goes on...

@georgetakei

It's a bit hilarious that no bullets find their way into the correct heads in a land with millions of guns/rifles/whatever and school shooters like every month.

@georgetakei Only oppose "tyranny" that doesn't serve your perceived interests.

@georgetakei

Absolutely they have the right to bear arms. Everyone gets a Musket and a Halberd. The reenactment societies can recommend many fine and authentic makers of these.
