Assimilation-induced dehumanization: Psychology research uncovers a dark side effect of AI

As AI becomes more empathetic, a surprising psychological shift occurs. New research finds that interacting with emotionally intelligent machines can make us see real people as more machine-like, subtly eroding our respect for humanity.

@benroyce It's terrifying how easy it seems AI agents warp peoples minds.

i don't have NYT so i just had to get the gist of it elsewhere. But dude was so flattered by the the AI that he started believing he was a superhero.

AI agents are basically the yes man for the average person. Now everyone can become like Elon.

Chatbots Can Go Into a Delusional Spiral. Here’s How It Happens.

Over 21 days of talking with ChatGPT, an otherwise perfectly sane man became convinced that he was a real-life superhero. We analyzed the conversation.

And if you're Vulcan or autistic....

@benroyce

So the more someone uses LLM's with a human persona the more the person thinks and acts like a techbro?

Could this get any more like a cursed magic item?

@alienghic

#AI is the ring in "lord of the rings"

it's a "power" that shapes the bearer, the user

#Thiel didn't call it #Palantir for nothing

@benroyce @alienghic

I am not sure Thiel has extended knowledge of Tolkien's legendarium.

Palantíri show real event, but not the full context. They can lead to misinterpretation.

A powerful user (like Sauron) could dominate weaker minds using a palantír, influencing what they see.

A famous example is Denethor, who used a palantír and saw only doom—leading him to despair and ultimately to his downfall.

I definitely hope Palantir Tech. predicts Thiel's and MAGA's downfall 😎

@benroyce @alienghic but they were, all of them, deceived.
@benroyce Think of the adolescents dating virtual partners right now. They'll never be able to have a normal relationship because their expectations are being modified to include an impossibly tolerant, passive partner.
