Over the years, I’ve heard a lot of developers & other people wish that uBlock Origin was available for Safari. Now it is! Download for Safari 18.6 and Safari 26 beta.

Now I’ll have to install #ubo on all the devices and configure on all profiles. But better than not having it.
@jensimmons
Wow! Better late than never I suppose.
@jensimmons Unfortunately that’s uBlock Origin Light which is Manifest v3 and doesn’t do a whole lot. (It’s fundamentally different from uBlock Origin, sadly; it’s the compromise version for new Chrome)

@waldi Yes. Without dynamic filtering you are left needing an increasingly massive static block list, which us untenable.

Additionally, the resources are fetched and then removed with uBOL vs not fetched with uBO

@jensimmons @janl whats wrong with 1Blocker?
@hukl @jensimmons did anyone say anything was wrong with 1Blocker?
@janl nah just wondering why ppl would miss ublock … :)
@hukl …giving reply-guy vibes, sorry.
@janl sorry also from my side if i struck the wrong chord :) Just came home from an exhausting and hilarious rehearsal room session and in retrospect I could and probably should have not replied :) But on a subdued note, I have issues with most adblockers including ublock but yeh - since i don't have the energy to elaborate right now the previous statement remains true :) Sorry again - as you were ;)
@jensimmons Finally! 🎉 I always wanted it for Safari! How does this compare to Wipr?
@jensimmons ah, finally. That is really great. 😊
@jensimmons that’s awesome! Going to get it right now.
@jensimmons ok, but looks like MacOS 15.x is required.
@mipstian RIP Wipr 😭 it was a good run.
@mipstian you're not worried? it is a direct and very strong competitor that fans have been waiting for for years.
@torsteinv nah I’ll be fine
@mipstian don't get me wrong, i really hope so, but what makes you so sure? does wipr have some secret sauce that sets it apart? :)
@torsteinv it’s complicated but yes
@mipstian is it in regards to evil video site? ☺️
@mipstian @torsteinv I have tried it. It is really good but Wipr 2 is still perfect for my case. So switched back to Wipr 2.
@JaySan25 @mipstian How is Wipr 2 perfect for your case? And what case is that, that uBlock doesn't also cover? I'm just worried that a free and well known and regarded adblocker is going to steal a lot of potential buyers from Wipr 2.
@torsteinv @mipstian i mean the only issue I’ve had with uBlock Origin Lite is, that it keeps empty spaces where ads are blocked. Sometimes I see an icon with ? where the ad is blocked. I also see many cookie notifications which I don’t see with Wipr.
@JaySan25 @torsteinv I haven’t done nothing for the past 10 years, you know 😬 it’s not magic tech, it’s just labor
@JaySan25 @mipstian yes i noticed the blank empty spaces too. Wipr 2 is much better at removing those than uBOL. I actually have the exact opposite experience with cookie notices though, uBOL takes them all while some slip through on Wipr. strange. anyways, i love Kaylee and have been a fan of hers and Wipr for gosh 10 years now? so i'm sticking with Wipr on Safari and can't wait for Filtr :)
@jensimmons this won't enable in iOS Safari.
@jensimmons 🎉👍 it’s literally the reason I had an alternate Chrome based browser installed. Thank you!
@jensimmons awesome! I would love to hear the story about how it all came together.
