Well here's a weird one...

Key sections from the U.S. Constitution have gone missing from the U.S. government's official website, including sections 8 through 10, which include legal provisions like habeas corpus (aka due process). The White House hasn't commented.

Key sections of the US Constitution deleted from government's website | TechCrunch

Internet sleuths say the U.S. Constitution's website is now missing key sections from its website, including a key legal provision relating to habeas corpus, which protects citizens from unlawful detention.

TechCrunch

Library of Congress tweeted out a short while ago saying the sections from the Constitution were removed from its website due to a "coding error." We've asked for more details, including what the coding error was, if known. No response yet.

@zackwhittaker Preaching to the choir, I know, but seems suspicious that a coding error would have targeted those oddly relevant sections that went missing
@zackwhittaker
a coding error that deletes specifically the parts the nazis don't like and whose absence would increase their power...? riiiiiiiiiiiight.
Hard not to call totall bullshit on that one.
@zackwhittaker I would have thought that the definitive site for such documents would be the National Archives, not Congress.
@zackwhittaker @Nonya_Bidniss the National Archives maintains the version of record, but Congress has a responsibility to present consistent foundational documents.

@Nonya_Bidniss

Just checked National Archives website....no paragraphs missing.

U.S. Constitution | Constitution Annotated | Congress.gov | Library of Congress

The original text of the United States Constitution and its Amendments.

@zackwhittaker This shit is stressing me out way more than going to library school ever prepared me for.

@zackwhittaker
From The Register IIRC, the explanation was a removed XML tag.
I'd think a closing one.
Me, I tend toward text, and once something that old is in html it perhaps doesn't need much adjustment.

Got to go, the lawn robot has cut a hosepipe, who would have thought that might happen.

@zackwhittaker My understanding was that it had something to do with a corrupted XML file. I don't have a source handy at the moment.
@zackwhittaker Reminds me of that scene in โ€žAnimal Farmโ€œ, where some animals recognize that the law they had given themselves has been changed.
@zackwhittaker specifically removing the bits covering writ of habeas corpus doesn't strike me as weird so much as intentional, but.. yeah

@zackwhittaker Ah, how very Orwell's "Animal Farm"...
@zackwhittaker Alexa, how would you go about violating the Constitution?
@zackwhittaker In a world where everything is digital and people don't have hard copies of the constitution lying around the "official" source is right there on that website. Anyone who wants to know what it says goes there. If there's argument it will be resolved there or probably nowhere. And it doesn't matter because the official truth is going to be the only truth soon.

@zackwhittaker Trump's Bible-Con now out of date. Second Edition when.

Who knew that maintaining the wayback engine would be revolutionary act one day.

#Fascism

@zackwhittaker It's not weird, it's a national emergency.
@zackwhittaker Well, golly, that's not, like, super-duper alarming or anything.
@zackwhittaker If that doesnโ€™t look guilty, I donโ€™t know what does.. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

@zackwhittaker Dear me, the laws you can't see are as good as no laws.
A bit different from Amendments 11-27 being omitted from Fat Bastard's book of fairy stories/founding documents

This cannot stand

@zackwhittaker Can we still get our Quietus from CVS?
@zackwhittaker lol murica is so fucked
@zackwhittaker Please do not allow this administration the assumption that this was accidental. It is a dictatorial fascist regime, and they did it to see if they could get away with it.
@zackwhittaker They are still on the National Archives site and on Congress.gov I don't know what "the US government's official website" is supposed to mean

@zackwhittaker

call it what you will but smart money thinks it's a trump bible update work-in-progress

@zackwhittaker
Orwell 1984 was a visionary with the perpetual deleting and rewriting of history and laws.
@zackwhittaker Strip people of their rights (or make them unaware they have any) so you can control them easier. Our representatives and judges have sold us out. I donโ€™t think the US will ever recover from this circus.

@zackwhittaker wouldnโ€™t that be cool if we passed a bill where all systems and services provided by the government had to be open source under a copy left license so we could just see?

Oh right, this is obviously a lie.

@zackwhittaker

Trump is preparing for an authoritarian regimeโ€ฆ

@zackwhittaker So, who, exactly, made this coding error? They have a name donโ€™t they? Say it.

@zackwhittaker

Of course it wasn't an "error"; no error would be this specific and tailored to the administration's preferences.

It was a trial balloon, to see what they can get away with and how much it would take before people stood up and resisted. They've been doing this since before taking office.

@zackwhittaker There are enough copies of Article I (& the other parts of the Constitution out there in the public domain, including the parts the Trump regime will never be able to disappear like it made US citizens & legal migrants disappear.
The Constitution will stay public, with or without the Trump regime.

@zackwhittaker

We knew this was coming. Next is destroying as many of the original copies as they can.

@zackwhittaker

"US Constitution" doubleplus ungood

revise sections 8-10 fullwise

@zackwhittaker
Wait...we have habeus corpus?
Maybe this explains why they thought they can deport people without hearings...
They just read the copy with missing sections.
@zackwhittaker "Coding error", lol

A few weeks from now, the USC will just read
