Looks like AD.nl wrote an article about Houten and featured my video:

I enjoyed the reader comments. Nice to see that newspaper comments are just as trash in the Netherlands as they are anywhere else. Nothing but the finest complaining from the crankiest Boomers! 😆

@notjustbikes yep, there's a reason I never go into comments of nu.nl, ad, bn de stem or anything other. It's too much ragebait and armchair professors for me.

Did they at least give credit? :)

@notjustbikes Jesus...no kidding these comments are something else.

I mean, the usual racist BS: (translated)"But if no asylum center comes, perhaps there will be some money left for our beautiful village." and of course normal boomer whining: (translated)"And all cargo bikes are only allowed to be used during school hours. And do not use it as a shopping cart." Isn't too much of a surprise.

But also, there's stuff like this: (translated)"How do they manage grocery shopping, going to work and school, going to the doctor, hospital, on vacation, and so on?".

Again, this comment is originally in Dutch. How is it possible for someone to speak Dutch and also question how one buys groceries without using a car?! Is this a Dutch person who grew up in the US and is for some reason reading a Dutch newspaper?! I don't think it is physically possible to live in the Netherlands and yet also be confused about how one gets groceries without a car.

Or maybe it's bots...who knows, these days that's almost more believable.

@danbrotherston @notjustbikes That's all the Dutch lessons on Duolingo are - just a bunch of exposition in excrutiating detail on how to do everything on bike.
@notjustbikes I've been watching pow news videos on YouTube which I'm not entirely sure about, like one presenter was wearing the proud boys uniform Fred Perry t shirt that fp stopped making when they found out, anyway this video the other day was about a Muslim lady stealing flowers from a memorial and they asked how should she be punished? The answers were "stone her to death" etc
@adamarmfield @notjustbikes Because you wrote you're not entirely sure about Pow News: they're not a news channel, but a very opinionated right wing website. That one of them was wearing an outfit generally associated with a violent extremist foreign group is *not* coincidence.
@orientalism @notjustbikes yes, the description of them by YouTube as Dutch public service broadcaster is what confused me

@notjustbikes I have to wonder…. Who would comment on such an article…

As in who has the time for such things, and knows the situation (c.q. lives in Houten)

My only conclusion is that Houten must be filled with complaining boomer knowitalls.

But maybe that’s just a skewed view due to reading comments……
