The 12th annual international Gender Census 2025 is now open until at least 30th August 2025!

https://survey.gendercensus.com

It's for anyone whose gender (or lack thereof) isn't described by the M/F binary. It's short and easy, and results are useful in academia, business and self-advocacy.

Wahey, over 1,000! :)

There have now been over 4,000 entries in about 6 hours!

Also, I've made a public spreadsheet sharing some non-secret data, in case you are curious to know how things are going. I hope to update it a few times per day.

During its busiest hour so far, the survey was getting about 16 responses per minute - one every 3.8 seconds. Whaaaaaaaaaat

They call me Cassian "Insomnia" Lodge and I made some small clarifications in the survey and also witnessed an hour with on average one new entry every 3.1 seconds!! (1,155 in the whole hour of 3am.)

It's over 11,000 now but I'm very short on sleep and then busy for a few hours so I won't have a chance to update the public spreadsheet for a little while. I'm sad about it though, the graphs are calling me.

Gender Census 2025

Please take a few minutes to take our survey.

@gendercensus Woah. That's a sizeable portion considering you got, what, 40k last year?
@aurakle It's usually very fast in the first couple of days before it calms down, so this is fair normal I think?
@gendercensus That makes sense, but still. That's nearly 1/40th in an hour.
@aurakle There were 1,155 in the 3am hour, that's one every 3.1 seconds! :o
@gendercensus
Is this census for the the whole world? 😅
@LeelaTorres The whole world whose genders are binary-defying, yes! :D
@gendercensus Ayy, I've been waiting for this to open since winter/spring! Yippee!! :3
@gendercensus ...and I've submitted. :3 Looking forward to seeing the results of this year's survey!
@aurakle Thank you! :)
@gendercensus Realizing that if the results are timestamped my comment about submitting them right after submitting has a non-zero chance of de-anonymizing my answers... oh well, I don't care, it's not particularly sensitive info.

I wish you luck dealing with all the textbox entries this year.
@aurakle Don't worry about that, it's going up by several entries per minute so far, there's no way I'd be able to identify you!

@gendercensus I am like a ball that was on its way to the fem box but landed on the outside wall instead and is now laying like 5cm next to the fem box wall

That sometimes spontaneously teleports

@gendercensus Faroe Islands is not an availabme country to select. Guess I have to select the colonizer country (Denmark) 😓

(Looks like people from Greenland also have to just pick Denmark, or prefer not to answer)

@gendercensus I ended up choosing "Prefer not to answer" because I barely speak Danish or hear Danish in my normal life (I speak Faroese) and because our cultures and struggles as non-binary are also different (For example, Danish non-binary folks can get an X on their passport I believe. I would likely have to physically move my address to Denmark to start that process)
@sigmundur That's very relevant, so include that stuff in an email if you want to badger me to change the country list. :)
@sigmundur I have a thing in the FAQ for that! TL;DR: I'm open to changing things but also I'm not a geographer, so if you want it changed I will need your help. https://www.gendercensus.com/faq/#separate-countries
Frequently Asked Questions – Gender Census

@gendercensus was doing first question
somehow read transgender as transitgender
@gendercensus question: the first actual question (page 3 "Identity") isn’t as clear as I remember it from the past years about what exactly is asked; is it only asking for gender identity terms (as the listed terms vaguely suggest) or for any identity terms (i.e. relating to sexuality or neurodivergence)?
@trisschen It's meant to be just about gender. The wording actually hasn't changed for many, many years! It was inspired by some ideal wording from a study by some UK government-funded org, and it avoids the word gender so that people who don't feel like they have any gender experience at all don't feel indirectly excluded and bail.
@trisschen Also, if you feel that sexuality or neurodivergence terms or anything else *do* describe your experience of your gender actually, whack them in there :D
