Mitläufer. It means “fellow traveler”, but not like a companion, more akin to a parasite. it was used to label the people who were guilty of following Nazi rule without argument. a better way to describe them was passive sympathizers.

you know what happened to some Nazi sympathizers after the war? You should ask the Russians where they left some of the lucky corpses. the others were tortured and enslaved then worked to death. the real unlucky ones lived for a very long time in the worst conditions you can’t even imagine. doesn’t matter though, they were Nazis and nobody should sympathize with a Nazi.

oh yeah, some were spared the horrors they wrought upon the world. they did spend the rest of their lives watching their backs though. it wasn’t uncommon for Mitläufer to come to America and find themselves hanging from a tree or tossed in some ravine.
