CoMaps is powered by OpenStreetMap — the map created by people, for people.

Thousands of local contributors around the world help keep it accurate, up-to-date, and truly community-driven. A mountain trail, a new road, or a hidden café - chances are it was added by someone who knows the area best.

CoMaps builds on this rich, open data to bring you offline navigation— maps that work anywhere.

Thank you to everyone contributing to OpenStreetMap — you make CoMaps possible!

@CoMaps does the org behind comaps have a social mission or cause past just the map part?
@humancuration the there is work ongoing to finalize the mission and vision: https://codeberg.org/comaps/Governance/pulls/94 feel free to contribute
WIP: Rework mission and vision statements

Mission: I added "pedestrians" in place of "hikers" and added "outdoor enthusiasts" at the end (closes #93), and rephrased parts of the statement to sound more natural. Vision: The original statement was ambiguous as to whether it meant libre or gratis by "free"; this clarifies that and also men...

@CoMaps does comaps take a strong stance against genocide?
@CoMaps State hates open maps, freedom terrifies bureaucrats.
@CoMaps what a great app! Do you consider to make it available for Linux mobile OS distributions like Ubuntu Touch? Users choosing UT value privacy, data autonomy and open source software, just like CoMaps. It would be a great addition.
@rdfrs quand il auront déjà suffisamment de développeurs/dons pour activement construire et améliorer sur les appareils les répandues vous pourrez certainement l'envisager à nouveau je pense.
@rdfrs if there is anyone who is familiar with Linux Mobile and can help with this, we welcome the contributions!

What's the difference between CoMaps and OrganicMaps?
@zm1 @CoMaps and osmand?
@fishidwardrobe @zm1 OMSand has a different approach. CoMaps is about a simple and easy interface.
@CoMaps @zm1 okay, well, so is Organic Maps. I don't mean to sound rude, but why do we need another? Why would I want to switch?
@zm1 @CoMaps comaps is an organicmaps fork made after there werer issues with the company from organicmaps https://www.comaps.app/news/2025-04-16/1/ at least from what i read, i dont know much about it

Organic Maps vs. CoMaps - feddit.org

Hi, can anyone explain what the fuzz about organic maps [https://organicmaps.app/] and the fork CoMaps [https://www.comaps.app/]is all about? I mean Organic Maps forked maps.me [http://maps.me] and CoMaps forked Organic Maps. What is the reason behind the last fork? I’m too old to keep track 😩 EDIT: https://openletter.earth/open-letter-to-organic-maps-shareholders-a0bf770c [https://openletter.earth/open-letter-to-organic-maps-shareholders-a0bf770c] Community contributors to Organic Maps have expressed serious concerns about the project’s governance, transparency, and the potential for shareholder profit at the expense of the community.

@zm1 Right now the biggest differences are how the projects are run - CoMaps is about transparency.

Since the split is recent, so far the CoMaps improvements are:

- More detailed/dense altitude contour lines for a number of regions
- Improved map colors
- Improved visibility of certain map objects
- Removed proprietary and remote control parts
- Android: automatic backups for favorites (bookmarks, tracks)
- Android: customizable button on Home Screen
- And many smaller updates

@CoMaps well un fact it is not only developed by the people but also by companies. Isn't the majority of contributions made by Apple and TomTom?

Show Me The Way

@CoMaps if you can get your POI data from one known dataset (rather than about 4 or 5 different ones, with the risk duplication and errors) that is relatively easy for endusers to provide corrections and add the speed display on Android Auto I'd definitely start using CoMaps (I did give it a try and it looked promising but not having the speed display is quite a big missing feature)

https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/issues/762

feat: Android Auto: show current speed + speed limit

### What problem would this feature help solve? As of 2025-06-30-22 Android Auto is not showing current driving speed. ### Describe the ideal solution Show current speed in Android Auto along with an indicator when exceeding allowed speed.

@CoMaps Very excited to see where this goes! In future posts, you might benefit from including hashtags so as to be caught by people unfamiliar with your org but interested in what you’re working on, such as #navigation, #maps, #OpenStreetMap, #community, etc. Without the algorithms present in corporate social media, discovery on the Fediverse is significantly strengthened by explicitly tagging relevant fields and interests!
@moshimotsu @CoMaps Right. I also often see the hashtag OSM which I would not recommend because #Openstreetmap is the more common and better one because three letter acronymes have often more than one meaning.

@CoMaps in addition to the point about “no algorithms”, within many fediverse softwares (notable Mastodon), people can only search based on hashtag'ed value and not raw text. This is by design.

@moshimotsu

@CoMaps Look amazing I'm trying to install it via F-Droid but even unchecking all the anti-features I can't see it. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Android 11. Thanks in advance.
@PigSaint You’ll need to check all the anti-features rather than uncheck and the app will be displayed.
@CoMaps Thank you very much. I did the opposite. Hahahaha.
