Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we can’t depend on US tech companies.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!

Getting off US tech: a guide

I’m in the process of dropping US tech services. Here’s how I did it, and options you should consider.

@parismarx I came here to recommend some of the NextCloud hosting providers - in particular I use TheGood.Cloud, Switzerland based. (I realise being Swiss isn't magic, but their values seem pretty solid anyway.)
@arafel Is there a good list of NextCloud providers? I'd be happy to add it.

@parismarx I think I just looked at the list of providers on their site, https://nextcloud.com/partners/ - apparently long enough ago to forget TheGood.Cloud are Dutch, not Swiss. My mistake. 🙈

As far as I recall I tried one of the ones with a Platinum partner badge, reasoning they’d probably know the most. Only tried the one so I can’t vouch for the rest.

Nextcloud partners

Nextcloud collaborates with a diverse ecosystem of partners who build on, complement, and provide services around our platform.

@arafel Oops, I should’ve found that. Thanks for the head’s up!
@parismarx @arafel I've been happily using @disroot 🇩🇪 for years as my provider for personal email, calendar, todo, files, and other Nextcloud things. Their free plan is perfect for personal use, and they have been very reliable for many years.

@famuvie @parismarx @arafel @disroot

I recently became a member as welll. I’m thinking of moving from Proton mail to @disroot

Glad to hear from a contented member.

@famuvie @parismarx @arafel happy to be at your service :)
