When I’ve discussed musicianship with people, I always mention this threshold you cross.
Learning an instrument is almost insufferable at times. But then you cross it. Every seasoned musician knows about it. You can suddenly just think about the music, and your body switches to autopilot. It’s hard to explain, but it’s the moment making music becomes otherworldly.
That actually makes sense.
Kinda reminds me of learning to type on a keyboard and how eventually you're just thinking the words as your fingers move automatically.
