I still can't find anything in the System Settings app.

Same. And the search is even more useless. I have more luck stumbling through all the pages to find what I’m looking for than I ever do using the search bar.

@mttjj @marcoarment @drdrang

Something that always confuses me about the search is sometimes it’ll work if you stop and start again, like it’s indexing everything from scratch, every single time. I’m about 70% sure that someone at Apple knows how caching works, but that 30% where I’m not sure is predicated entirely on how busted settings search is.

@marcoarment I was thinking this just yesterday. And the search is useless

Has anyone brought up public objections to Apple’s design direction in any interviews? I feel like this gets discussed in comments and blog posts but never addressed directly with Apple.

@marcoarment @drdrang For some historical reason neither of us can remember, my wife's Mac was using my ID for purchases and we tried to switch it to her ID the other night – resulting in a 45 minute journey that involved System Settings, the App Store app, the Music app, and much foul language.

Computers for the rest of us. 🤷‍♂️

@marcoarment Saying "our user engagement has gone way up since our redesign" is one of those ambiguous compliments that might not be a real compliment… like saying "everyone on our team works a lot harder after he joined".
@marcoarment Well; we all know that an “information” icon is used not to give additional information; but to contain more UI under another rug. It’s not as though there’s an established pattern that this goes against. It’s not as though additional UI controls that can be accessed are traditionally accessed via a _labeled button_ such as “options” or “more settings”. No; this is just information!
@mattwilcox heck, even an arrow suffices, but who actually put thought into the design, right?
@marcoarment @drdrang The menu to select the default web browser being in the Widgets section under Desktop & Dock says it all.
@marcoarment Tbh i couldn't find anything in the old one either. Always used the search field
@marcoarment And it's hopelessly broken. Go to About This Mac from the Apple menu and click More Info. The sidebar highlights General, but you know the About pane on the right is one level deeper in the General settings pane hierarchy. But the Back arrow is disabled. Clicking General again in the sidebar also does nothing.
@marcoarment the Setting will be removed soon. As Nobody uses it
