I think #meshtastic is a cool technical novelty but I fear it is a solution in search of a problem as so many things nowadays.

What's your opinion on that?

@mojoaxel

I think there's a difference between a solution in search of a problem and a fun, mostly useless thing done just for the sake of it that might turn out to be useful later.

@mojoaxel i think amateur radio is locked into a dark corner and in today’s world where we know anything not protected in transit is archived indexed and monetized, there are those who want e2e radio that’s affordable but it’s hamstrung at the 1w power. just a little more distance with cheap portable devices could open a lot of doors. that’s if the spectrum isn’t sold to line more people’s pockets with more $$.

@mojoaxel
Höre gerade zum ersten Mal davon.

Könnte interessant werden, wenn man kommunizieren will oder muss, ohne auf die üblichen Netze zuzugreifen und dabei größere Entfernungen überbrücken muss.

@mojoaxel I think there could be a future where every cell phone has a LoRa radio and meshtastic capabilities, and every building has an openwireless.org WiFi network, and we wouldn't need or expect to pay $100 per person just to access each other and the internet.
@mojoaxel I’ve setup some local family and friends with devices as a disaster recovery com devices, in the event there are wide spread power and services outages. Besides being used for emergency situations, it’s been a ton of fun playing with them.
