Ugh, a good friend of mine, who had been waiting years for a visa, finally got one for his son to come over from Mogadishu. The visa was valid for only one month, and he managed to come just before the inauguration. However, with the current policies in place, the father is now in a precarious situation. Although he is a U.S. citizen, his son, who had patiently waited years to obtain a visa and begin the process of permanent residency, got it so close that, if they were to apply for residency, there is a high likelihood that his 17-year-old son, who is currently in high school, would be deported. They are afraid to take him in to apply for a passport and other necessary documents because there is a risk that he might be apprehended and possibly even flown to a different country than his homeland. Atleast in his homeland they do have some family but if they flew him to Sudan or El Salvador or just disappeared him that would be terrible. ICE agents are heartless because they are implementing discriminatory and harmful policies against people who are lawfully present in the country, including US citizens. Their actions violate their oaths and the constitution. I would strongly advise all immigrants to refrain from traveling to this country, even for a vacation, until the current administration is no longer in power. Listen to those of us on the ground; the situation is rapidly deteriorating and becoming increasingly dangerous. You don’t want to risk being detained and held in an immigration prison simply because you decided to visit this country. This behavior is reminiscent of the Gestapo. #uspol #immigration #trump #losangeles #nyc #pdx #miami #texas #washington #seattle #ice #meltice

@RedwoodSec Try connecting your friend with a group similar to those described in this article, to accompany them to the courthouse to file applications, etc.

How Organizers in California's Central Valley Are Fighting ICE Raids and Deportations

Though national media has been concentrated on the Trump admin's attacks on Los Angeles, those in California's Central Valley are calling attention to the plight of the region's 300,000-plus undocumented migrants.
