I made a top! It's bad!

I am quite embarrassed about how this turned out and wasn't sure I wanted to post it but this is the reality of someone who's learning, I guess.

The topstitching ruined everything, somehow. The good side was looking SO clean before that, I was actually impressed. Not sure what I did wrong with the topstitch that caused all of *that* at the armholes.

(I will add a tag to cover that disgusting thread mess on the inside of the back)

On the plus side, however, I really like the fit, it's kind of cute when worn. Still hate this fabric though 😆

@aliceinwaterdeep It's a good thing that you started! You will get better with experience. Enjoy it, you made a thing you can actually wear! And the next one will be even nicer.
@OutoftheBlueDD Thank you! Yeah, a couple of months ago I would not have been able to make it at all. Progress is progress regardless of the result!
@aliceinwaterdeep
I don't think this is bad at all, tbh. I got some sewing lessons for my birthday and will start taking them in August - I am sure I won't manage to sew a straight line and I don't even know what a top stitch is. But I will learn and your post gives me courage to start 💙

@loathlylady Aw this is so sweet. Taking sewing lessons sounds so exciting, I'm sure you'll learn tons of new skills!

Even if my top came out weird I still learned a lot, and at the end of the day that's the fun part :)

Thanks for sharing! Cute top. If I learned anything, it is to give myself time/space and fabric for learnings. I worked my first stretch tops with a twin needle and had similar experience. On my machine with my experience the twin needle only did a good job on non-slinky fabrics with a tad more weight than lightweight, drapey thin t-shirt jersey. I solved my problem and got me a cover stitch. That is the expensive but my cover stitch is SO much better at transporting the stretchy fabric than my
@Sewingbear That sounds like it was definitely worth it! Thank you for sharing that and I agree, trial and error is what gets you to learn and improve :)
