This hedgehog has a terrible itch. They are always scratching. I shouldn’t laugh but I did at this 😂.

Oh and the slinky tortie cat from next door managed to wriggle down the tunnel and wrap around the baffle inside…I clearly need more baffles!

#hedgehogs

@helenclayton Top-heavy little critters 🙂
@andyprice they right themselves quickly but it’s funny in slo-mo as all the legs wave in the air.
@helenclayton I just googled „how to help an itchy hedgehog“ and the response might be useful to you. Our last hedgehog visitors 3 years ago were also itchy as hell. We just gave them fresh water and petshop’s best appropriate food and then grieved when they stopped coming from one day to the next.
@susannedent I’m checking all the footage to see if any signs of prickle or fur loss. None I can see and they look pretty healthy. But I’ve got a hedgehog rescue contact I can ask if necessary. Today’s job is moving the feeding station (to a clean spot) and modifying it to stop the cat getting in.

@helenclayton

Not sure whether fleas should be removed or if they are 'natural'.

Not that they could be.

@lionelb unless it’s something like ringworm I think they’re best left alone.
@helenclayton when I was a child if you picked up a hedgehog, as I frequently did, they would be running alive with fleas. The ones I sometimes handle nowadays never have any obvious signs. I think they get ticks too
@Beedazzled yes, ticks, fleas. Sometimes treated some with ringworm when I helped at a hedgehog hospital. They had obvious bald patches. I’m keeping an eye. This one is very active.
@helenclayton yes ringworm makes anything look very bedraggled
@helenclayton Lol! So many itchy hogs 😁
@Sarah111well this one is always scratching. They look pretty healthy though and are very fast.
@helenclayton Yes I have some that scratch a lot more than others. I always hope they’re not the ones that I have to take to the wildlife rescue centre 😂
@Sarah111well yes I hope this one is ok as I’m not sure I’d catch them 😂. Mind you, if they’re so hard to catch they’re probably ok!
@helenclayton Yes that’s a good guide. I’ve only had to catch a couple of quick hogs - both hoglets. One too small to be out on its own, one too small to hibernate. 🦔🦔

Young adult cats are such gymnasts! Their bones are made of cartilage, and very bendy

@NilaJones I’m not sure how old Rudi is but she is certainly bendy!
