A court order granted on Monday put a receiver in charge of managing and operating assets owned by Edmonton City Centre Inc. That includes the mall, TD Tower, 102A Tower, Centre Point Place and building parkades — in total, about 1.4 million square feet of office and retail space.

@chad With Woodwards and Eatons gone it was only a matter of time. The Bay alone couldn’t keep downtown shopping alive. I don’t think anything can.
@crispin You're right - it really does go that far back.

@crispin @chad I think the city has the right approach in their plan - encouraging more residential use downtown, whether by conversions of office buildings, or new construction on downtown's copious surface parking lots.

I'm not saying it's guaranteed to work, but I think if anything's going to work it's going to have to include much increasing the number of people who live downtown.

@crispin @chad (or, if we believe Rahim Jaffer, Free Parking!!1 will fix it)
