My craziest friend just text me to ask me how and where I get affirmation and praise if I don't use ChatGPT to do it.
@MLE_online clearly has never posted a cat picture on caturday. 😂
@MLE_online why does this make me uncomfortable?
@h2onolan cuz the idea of people relying on computer code to tell them they have worth is really sad?

@MLE_online

👀

M'sorry? Hhhhhh-wat?

@MLE_online this just fucking broke me.
@emma @MLE_online I can't believe that people are trying to automate the process of screaming into the void and hoping someone spares you a favorite.

@MLE_online

I think you've got some pretty awesome crafting skills, so you sure seem to get internet randos telling you that project you did is cool.

This may not work well for people who haven't been spending a bunch of time getting to be good at doing something.

For what it's worth there's a long philosophical literature that includes the feeling of competence as an important contributor to the feeling of living a good life. (it's part of "human flourishing")

@alienghic People say nice things to me in person, too, lol. I don't rely on the fediverse for my sense of self worth any more than i rely on chatgpt.

My friend has skills. She's just nutty and has insane ideas

@MLE_online

But as a weird internet rando I can't see the other people saying good things about you in person. I'd expect it's happening though

Has your friend gotten weird enough that they're having problems relating to other people? That happens sometimes.

@alienghic she's always had problems relating to other people. She's been crazy for as long as I've known her

@MLE_online

Well.. uh good luck. hope she find some way to connect to reality at some point.

@alienghic I'm not counting on it lol. He thinks everyone else is crazy or dumb, so she has no incentive to change
@MLE_online "how do you feel affirmed when you haven't earned the praise?"
@MLE_online the normal way- by applying coatings to bike frames more skillfully than your friends
@fredy it's good being queen
