Mastodon 4.4 also contains the first part of our Quote Post implementation - display of incoming Quote Posts. Full support (including creation) will be part of the next version: Mastodon 4.5, coming later this year. We’re already hard at work on the next set of updates for that release.

Only thing I wish for is making the HIDE and ALT buttons transparant *enough* so I can see the full image/video inline. (PS pinch zooming is broken on image popout, but doesn’t matter if my first comment is solved)

@Mastodon your most recently published accounts (for 2023) show a 65% increase in donations, exceeding half a millon Euros. That seems very healthy for a "small" team.

And yet there are thousands of admins running #mastodon server who personally subsidise to cover their basic running costs due to poor donations.

How about encouraging your followers to support their own host a little too?

@collectifission Ivory's quotes are not proper quote posts, but more of a rich preview when a post contains "RE: <status url>”
We are implementing quote posts with full control for the user (choose if you want to be quoted, retract a previous quote…) which requires proper server and client support (see https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/02/bringing-quote-posts-to-mastodon/)

@Mastodon Is it now possible to somehow create quote posts through the REST API, if I have some app or tool of my own using the API, or does it only work for now when the quote is coming from another (non-Mastodon) instance over ActivityPub?

@mackuba This is not yet possible. The only way to see quotes right now is with self-quotes from external ActivityPub servers that support part of our FEP.

Perhaps it has been addressed, but 4.4 doesn't seem to include a total opt-out for QRT. Are there explained reasons for this? Personally I love QRT, but I know people who doesn't, for various motives.

@ikuturso Under an experimental flag, yes. We did not manage to implement the API and client changes to support it fully, but this should be in 4.5.

Would be nice to get any explanations of the different post-install or depreciation messages of some update steps. I ignored all of them and it went well. However - in some cases additional steps might be required as per the hints after completion of a specific update step.
Regardless of this, many thanks for the great work to the Mastodon team.
