Despite measles being declared eliminated in the US in 2000, annual measles cases have reached a 33-year high — and it's only July.

This is the tragic result of the spread of anti-vax disinformation, and will only get worse in the coming years because anti-vaxxers now lead our health agencies.

Measles cases surge to record high since disease was declared eliminated in the US

There have been more measles cases in the US this year than any other since the disease was declared eliminated a quarter-century ago.

CNN
@luckytran The anti-science anti-vaxxers are unconscionable.
@luckytran In Alberta Canada where anti-vax hit hard and the Premier seems to encourage it we are at ~1190 for a pop of ~4.5mil. She also likes JFKjr advice apparently.

@jeffhorton @luckytran

Same finance network, same playbook. One goal, subvert democratic norms.

@luckytran

There are no limits to human stupidity...

@luckytran When do schools restart in the US? I dread what will happen then. The holiday camps will mix up kids from various states so nicely spread the disease if they aren't there long enough to eliminate the infection in the camp, then the return to school, oh gosh looking grim, especially if any infant siblings with an outbreak of SSPE in about 7 to 12 years time.

@luckytran
A proportion of people who catch Measles die of it.

This rise in cases is driven, deliberately, by people in and out of public office.

At what point is action taken to prevent one or the group of them murdering another person?

And how furious would the parent of a dead child be if they lost their fixed belief that they had acted sensibly in avoiding immunisation?

@midgephoto @luckytran The Boomer antivax dipshits have survivor bias. The dead victims aren't around to counter the survivor's ignorant argument that measles ain't so bad.
@BLTpizza @luckytran
A bereaved parent however does not have survivor bias.
@midgephoto @luckytran Unless they are religious zealots . My toot only refered to all of the boomers I've met that say they never got the MMR and nothing bad happened.
@luckytran Republicans love measles
@luckytran it will lead to increases in average IQ as the idiots die off.
Donald Trump Vows to Let Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ‘Go Wild on Health’ If Elected

At his Madison Square Garden rally, Donald Trump all but promised that conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has pushed crank science for decades, would have a role in a prospective administration.

WIRED

@luckytran I'd say, let's treat measles in red states like republicans treated HIV in queer communities in 80's.

After all, they did everything in their power to stop innocent people from dying, right?
/s

@fionor @luckytran Honestly, that's the plan. They believe it's better to let the virus burn through the population. They are fine with increased mortality because they will ignore it. In their minds they are right and are doing the right thing. Stupid people are very dangerous
@luckytran True but this what happens when the captain of the ship refuses to engage with reality

@luckytran

Thanks Alberts!

@Ratoncita @luckytran all gratitude for the measles epidemic in Alberta should be sent to D. Smith and the UCP caucus.
