Apologies for the recent lack of bugs. I've been back in #Seattle - and, in #VolunteerPark, have discovered what I've dubbed #waspHeaven - the middle path around the water tower. I've counted at least eleven different species of wasp - around noon in hot weather, the place is (literally) *buzzing*. I'll post more. Here's a brief selection - see alt text for details...

It's interesting how distinct they are when looking close up. 🪲
There's silly amounts of evolutionary distance between a lot of 'em - and of course Apocrita contains all wasps and funny offshoots like 'bees' (vegetarian wasps) and 'ants' (social wasps that have mostly lost their wings)...

You may have guessed that I'm rapidly becoming a wasp enthusiast.
(I need to do a proper write-up of the parasitoid wasps I rescued from windows in Derbyshire - turns out they weren't ichneumons, but almost identical-looking braconids preying on wood beetle larvae - with literally 100-million-plus years of evolution separating them...)
@[email protected] I don't know if you've thought of this already. But with your expertise and amazing photos, you can categorized all the wasps and bugs and publish a photo book. Like an encyclopedia of bugs!
