The chaotic urge to tell Linux evangelists to "Just install Windows" when they post even the smallest gripe about Linux...

@catsalad Why not "Just install OpenBSD" ?

#fanatics

@bortzmeyer @catsalad
Because it's a reaction to them replying "just install Linux" when someone posts the smallest gripe about Windows
@leeloo @bortzmeyer @catsalad they usually use "just run linux", which is clever because it doesn't mention the GODDAMN INSTALL of the stuff.

@defred @bortzmeyer @catsalad
In my experience, installing is easy. It's all the stuff people suddenly realise they want after installing that cause problems.

But maybe jnstalling Linux has become harder? It was pretty easy in 1999.

@leeloo @bortzmeyer @catsalad of course it was a joke, I don't talk gentoo installs here :). But being a linux user since 2004, I could have rant about tons of "discomforts" new users will experience, but I give you that modern distro are incredibly easy to install, and with the right default packages it's almost like... A mac :)

Eye see what YOU did there, DeFred, and Eye'm tut-tutting over here!
@defred @leeloo @bortzmeyer @catsalad "just use that other free operating system. You know, the one that came free with your computer" (and then run like hell)
@leeloo @defred @bortzmeyer @catsalad all the stuff like webcam, wifi or printing other things than an A4.

@mariejulien @defred @bortzmeyer @catsalad
Are there still non-class compliant webcams? I know I had to compile an alpha driver back when I used a webcam, but that was when 640x480 was a good camera resolution. I thought they all switched to being class compliant years ago.

But no, I was thinking of their anti cheat games and all the s software they downloaded from suspicious websites 8 years ago and didn't mention until after wiping the system, but now is suddenly important.

@leeloo @mariejulien @defred @bortzmeyer @catsalad if your webcam does fancy stuff beyond "outputs an image" it is often controlled by proprietary software.

(Dear potential commenter: Yes I know cameractrls and use it myself; not what I mean)
