All We Imagine As Light
Great city scenes. A good break from my regular faire of action and cop movies.

In Mumbai, Nurse Prabha's routine is troubled when she receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Her younger roommate, Anu, tries in vain to find a spot in the city to be intimate with her boyfriend. A trip to a beach town allows them to find a space for their desires to manifest.
Insomnia (1997)
A very young looking Stellan playing a sleep deprived corrupt cop.

Detectives Jonas and Erik are called to the midnight sun country of northern Norway to investigate a recent homicide, but their plan to arrest the killer goes awry, and Jonas mistakenly shoots Erik. The suspect escapes, and a frightened Jonas pins Erik's death on the fugitive. Jonas continues to pursue the killer as he seeks to protect himself; however, his mounting guilt and the omnipresent sun plague him with an insomnia that affects his sanity.
Insomnia (2002)
This was the better movie. It was the same story, but it was tweaked to make it tighter. There was a complete backstory, about internal affairs investigating them. There were some really stunning landscape shots. The chase scene over the logs was perfect.
But this one wanted you to like the protagonist, while the 1997 one didn't. The character which Stellan played was much more interesting.

Afire
Very slow moving story, that never really speeds up but gets better as it goes along.

Self-important author Leon joins his best friend on a summer holiday near the Baltic Sea to complete his novel. When they arrive, they find their house is already occupied by a carefree woman who challenges Leon to open up. Meanwhile, forest wildfires rage around them and impending disaster looms.
Purple Noon
This guy was playing it for the long game. He didn't sneak out of town after selling the guys boat.
I don't know anything about boats / ships, but this thing was beautiful.
This was part of the (Mr.) Ripley collection, which is being highlighted this month.

The Swimmer
Although I watched the entire thing, I'm not sure if I liked it. If it didn't have Burt Lancaster I might have given up on it all together.

La Cienaga
Really great unstructured story, which chaotic scenes. Felt very free form.

Remember My Name
I doubt I'll finish this, but I found it funny that I recognized Jeff Goldblum's voice, but not him. π

The Breaking Ice
Got confused by the Korean wedding at the start of the movie. And the Korean village as a tourist attraction. I guess the city in China is near North Korea which is why there is a Korean population in the city.

In cold wintry Yanji, a city on China's northern border, young urbanite Haofeng, visiting from Shanghai, feels lost and adrift. By chance, he goes on a tour led by Nana, a charming tour guide who instantly fascinates him. She introduces him to Xiao, a personable but frustrated restaurant worker. The three bond quickly over a drunken weekend. Confronting their individual traumas, their frozen desires slowly thaw as they seek to liberate themselves from an icy world.
The Shrouds
I don't know if I've ever seen a Cronenberg movie, as I'm not interested in that genre. But this one looked like it was in the Dark Mirror genre and it had big name stars.
It was a clunky story with only average dialogue, but was hoping it would improve.
Then came the really disturbing scene and I tapped out quickly. Fuck that.

Adieu Philippine
Nice city & crowd scenes.
Interesting that there were TV productions of live theater. I didn't know that was a thing.
Michel is a young technician in the fledgling TV industry and is due for military service in two months at the time of the Algerian War. Juliette and Liliane are inseparable best friends, and aspiring actresses, who hang around outside the TV studio. Michel invites them in to watch, flirts with them both, and dates them separately and together. When Michel goes on a holiday to Corsica, just before he is drafted, the girls follow.
Trying to find something I can stick with in the Summer Romance selection.
Gidget isn't happy that shes being dragged to the beach on a "manhunt". She's 16 and will be a "social outcast" if she doesn't get a boyfriend during summer break.
I only lasted like 15 minutes into this movie.
Her one friend, with the short hair & jeans, is exempt because she has a sorority pin.

Not renewing my subscription, so last post on this thread. I appreciate the different selection of movies. But I still have a hard time finding something which I watch all the way to the end. I'll subscribe again in the future. (No commercials!)
Hedwig and the Angry Itch
One of the best low budget movies I've ever watched. I didn't know anything about this, other than it was originally on Broadway. Good film making, and fun.
