One thing I find pretty consistent in my liking of a movie is the long take. It’s both technically impressive but also just feels so much less manipulative than lots of quick takes, close-ups, and reverse shots. They show a moment’s true time and choreography.
Thinking of this because I just saw “Deep Crimson” (1996) — and, oooh boy — there are long takes with pans that are virtuosic. And in the age of film too, it’s truly impressive.
