I am a giddy right now. My wife asked me to install a VPN on her phone prior to travel.
She now has Tailscale set to tunnel into my tailnet and exit through the Raspberry Pi in our basement whenever she is on WiFi outside our home.
She just wants to feel secure on hotel WiFi.
And I just want to gush and show her how she can use the Calibre server and Searxng and Immich and Taildrop and is protected by our privacy-respecting ad-blocking DNS setup.
*Be cool. Be cool. Act natural. Don’t ruin the moment.*

@jeff_3ix tailscale is not a fully encapsulated vpn, by default it is an overlay network only routing specific traffic over the network. The bulk of traffic stays on that public WiFi.
You must setup tailscale exit node to accomplish the desired result.
Here is their kb article to configure.

Route all internet traffic through a specific device on your network.

@noflcl yes, thanks. That is what I meant. I have 4 exit nodes to choose from.
@jeff_3ix that's deadly!
@noflcl I’m pretty sure I’ve only used 2 of them as exit nodes. But once I figured out how to do it, I just want to configure everything to the max
