I can't get over this sentence no matter how often I read it.

"Women showed no effects when told they were masculine; however, men given feedback suggesting they were feminine expressed more support for war, homophobic attitudes, and interest in purchasing an SUV."

@jmcrookston Seriously, though, how many men take it out on the women in their lives?
@anne_twain Huge percentages, which we don't want to acknowledge.

@jmcrookston @anne_twain

What struck me about Trump winning the recent presidential election in the US was that the US electorate is even more misogynistic than it is racist.

The US electorate chose Obama twice as president but subsequently has on two occasions rejected extremely well qualified female candidates for the same job.

@the_wub @jmcrookston Could be. You haven't had a female president yet.

@anne_twain @jmcrookston

Primarily as I have only ever lived in parliamentary democracies (three in total) with ceremonial monarchs as heads of state.

:)

@the_wub @jmcrookston Sorry, my mistake.

@anne_twain

Not a problem, I was not in anyway ruffled by your comment.

I hope that you were not ruffled by my reply.

Enjoy the rest of your day/evening.

@the_wub No, no, you're not the mansplainer. He's already taken offence and blocked me, so everything's fine now. Please don't apologise.

@forbes@flipboard.com @business-forbes@flipboard.com Lichtman is probably right that the explosion of misinformation explains it. An alternative explanation would introduce two more keys: 'race' and 'gender'. Obama won in 2008 with 8 vs. 5 keys (8>6); with 'race' it would have been 9 vs. 6, still a victory as 9>8. Clinton lost and would have lost anyway. Harris had both gender and race against her. It could still be that the misinformation provided low-info voters with a permission structure for racism and misogyny...

So the attempt by Democrats and supporters to sway young male voters pointing out how important their female relatives had been during their formative years probably was the worst possible tack to take. Given that many young men will suffer from this "fragile masculinity" that the first post mentioned.

Why would you as a young man want to admit that you needed women to become a man? Why would you then vote for a female candidate?

@the_wub @jmcrookston @anne_twain

I beg to differ. I left America anticipating an HRC victory. Of course, Trump was far, far worse.

Here's a video of Hillary Clinton giggling over the death of one of her enemies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DXDU48RHLU

He was killed by being sodomized to death by a crowd.

----

Kamala Harris was unelectable, though again, infinitely better than Trump.

Running someone for President who had gotten 2% of the vote in their only election was a bad idea.

@the_wub @jmcrookston @anne_twain Americans are extremely sexist - it's the only country I ever visited where young women routinely told me they hated feminism. They're also racist.

But above all is this: things have been shockingly bad for the poorest 50% of Americans for generations. These should be natural D voters, except the DNC continues to run on the "America is already great" platform, instantly alienating them.

At least Trump lies and pretends he's going to do something for them.

2/

@the_wub @jmcrookston @anne_twain For generations now, the DNC has focused its efforts on crushing anyone to the left of them, while moving right as quickly as possible.

Until there is either a wholesale reform within the DNC, or they collapse and new party starts, America will never be able to make progress.

@TomSwirly @the_wub @jmcrookston @anne_twain The US as we know it would have to fall before that'd happen, it's a founding principle.

@nini @the_wub @jmcrookston @anne_twain Sigh, likely true.

The US did have a couple of decades of strong progressivism, until Ronald "Burning In Hell Right Now" Reagan - I pray for their return.

@TomSwirly @the_wub @jmcrookston I'd like to leave this thread now. It started out as a discussion of gender roles and it's turned into a mansplaining extravaganza. Please untag me from further posts.

@anne_twain @the_wub @jmcrookston

> mansplaining extravaganza

I would never use a gendered insult toward you or any person, nor does my gender have anything to do with whether my arguments are correct or not.

Life's too short to deal with angry people using slurs. I think me blocking you will satisfy both of us entirely.

@TomSwirly

Happy to block you!

Have a nice day!

@the_wub @jmcrookston @anne_twain I have a friend down in Florida I recently realized is kind of racist. But she stopped being friends with a Puerto Rican friend of hers for saying that women can’t be president because men are the leaders. 🀒

@maggiejk men are ruthlessly non-emotional and make the best leade--FOURTEEN "MASSIVE GROUND PENETRATORS" COMPLETELY OBLITERATED THE NUCLEAR FACILITY IT WAS UTTERLY DESTROYED I AM SO POWERFUL THEY WILL NEVER FIGHT AGAIN PLEASE ADORE ME I'M DESPERATELY BEGGING FOR YOUR APPROVAL LOVE ME WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE ME

Or something like that anyway

@jmcrookston @maggiejk

I remember reading a Sci-Fi story years ago. In the world depicted in the story all the leaders were women.

This was because women were regarded as less emotional than men. They had predictable monthly hormonal cycles and hence could govern in a more rational and consistent manner.

Whereas men were regarded as over emotional with their emotions being steered by daily fluctuations in their testosterone levels. Thus making them unsuited to leadership roles.

@maggiejk @jmcrookston

"...kind of racist."

Isn't that similar to being "a bit pregnant"?
