I can't get over this sentence no matter how often I read it.

"Women showed no effects when told they were masculine; however, men given feedback suggesting they were feminine expressed more support for war, homophobic attitudes, and interest in purchasing an SUV."

@jmcrookston

I mean. Obviously. Is this not universally understood?

Fine, do the science but... no shit. Tell us something we DON'T know.

@jawarajabbi @jmcrookston

Men need "the science" to tell them something they don't know. A woman who already knows could just tell them, but would they listen to her?

@petealexharris @jawarajabbi @jmcrookston There is a Roman comedy play in which the women have figured out what happened early on but the men don't listen because the women can't possibly have figured it out. It's 2000 years old but with some minor adjustments it would, sadly, run today just fine.

@AimeeMaroux @petealexharris @jawarajabbi @jmcrookston I want to know the name of that play please pretty please πŸ₯Ί
@RachelC_Y @petealexharris @jawarajabbi @jmcrookston IIRC it was Hecyra by Terence. It comes with a BIG content warning, though, because the plot revolves around sexual assault.
@jawarajabbi @jmcrookston The rock of science is a firmer ground to build on than the soil of common sense, even when they rise to the same level.
