Two things I’m weirdly protective of about the Mac:
1) It has a boot chime.
2) The Finder has a darker left side.

Beyond that I leave it to @siracusa et al.

@Gte @siracusa The Mac is still out there dodging bullets
@jsnell @siracusa Dodging bullets? The Mac is Neo in the Matrix and by pure dint of a sense of purpose it is bending reality to its will.
@jsnell @siracusa There’s a whole piece in this! Why the Mac worked and how everything has chased it across time and interaction space. I’m not sure that converging on the Mac is the best choice but I’ll be damned if I’ve a better idea.
@Gte @siracusa even when i installed linux it retained the boot chime, i didn't expect that and it made me laugh heartily
@Gte @siracusa I’m:
* “unnatural scrolling” with the mouse
* anti-trackpad on any non-portable Macintosh
* scroll bars always on
@jimluther Because you are a sane and rational adult! All of those and ‘List View’ because Column View is blasphemy! (Actually it’s OCCASIONALLY useful but usually annoying)
@jon_alper I also turn on high contrast, turn off transparency, never use dark mode, and never use full screen, but I can see how those could be someone’s preference.
@jimluther All the same aside liking dark mode. I’m often (by choice) in a room where my screens are by far the brightest light source.
@jon_alper @jimluther As a NeXT person, column view is soothing.
@jimluther @siracusa I tend to roll with the punches. I’m not saying they’re right but mostly I adapt. What people will interact with shouldn’t be too far off of my own experience.

@Gte @siracusa I found the chime rather startling on reboot. The wonderful thing about it was reboots were a rare occurrence.

I am not running a mac now, but I did appreciate the ease of use and synching with my phone.
