Agree wholeheartedly. Yes a scary thing can happen on the subway. No the subway is not a scary thing (or the L, or the Metro, or BART, or, or, or).
Mass transit is fabulous and people trying to drive you away from it are not doing so for the public good.
My most vivid memory of riding the NYC subway: the guy that got on towing a batch of helium balloons bigger than he was....
