Did you know that there’s a premium version of Whatsapp which :

- Has no advertising
- Has no mandatory AI integration
- Has no tracking and does not gather your personnal data
- Has increased privacy and stronger encryption
- Is exclusive and allows you to chat with other premium members

Best of all ? It is currently free to join!

Go now to your app store and install it before it is too late!

It is called "Signal"

Reducing the digital clutter of chats

Reducing the digital clutter of chats par Ploum - Lionel Dricot.

@ploum Lol, I started reading and already decided: I'm not interested in #WhatsApp. Just before scrolling further I realized what the premium version is :-)
@ploum It also has none of my contacts unfortunately😞
@gwenhael @ploum everything have to be created in any case anyway...? Some won't change for privacy, so they'll have to use youre phne number.. what différence ? 😉
@gwenhael @ploum It's a shame that there is a superior version of whatsapp but I'm not able to use it cuz there's no contacts in it. 😭

@gwenhael @ploum Your chance to be first mover 😉

Change has to start somewhere. Trying Signal for group chat or video call is an easy way to get people on board. And unlike Metas products, is easy, as it should be, to delete your account.

@gwenhael @ploum
That's something that can be changed.
@ploum J'avais vu passé ce type de message (certainement de toi, un pouet précédent ?) mais présenté comme ça, j'adore vraiment le concept ! Et c'est quand même plus sexy que "c'est libreuh" ! Merci :)
@ploum merci! Just the thing to put into my WhatsApp status for today...
@ploum love this, spreading now a concise version everywhere
@ploum and it hass way less trolls, cryptobros, and fascists loudmouths.
So exclusive that no one I know uses it
@ploum Did you know that there are premium versions of signal, where the users are at level with the service providers, because there are many providers per protocol, and one can even set one up oneself? So policy changes cannot be pushed by threatening to lose one's network. They are called matrix and xmpp. And they don't even have to be stationed in the US!
@huck @ploum I have 2 phones one for internal use no SIM card less pro app less notifications; the other the standard one for external use with signal on it. There is no way for my home phone to be linked as a slave app, as the tab app do. The main $ competitor does it without problem and no web app to circumvent it. That s a categorical no go for me. For my close friends I use xmpp and conversations.im that does not care how many devices I have and their nature, phone tab or laptop
@ploum but only 7 of my 800 contacts has it. Better to use SMS

@ploum Even better with Threema!

- it does not require a phone number
- does not nag you about donations
- does not have some payment stuff, that make it a target of regulatory stuff
- is based in Europe

@grefeng I had Wire. Based in Switzerland as well. Apart of being used by only few of my contacts, it went through cycles of being open to all, then restricted to businesses only I think and then open again. It then slipped out of my mind having no contacts at all left on it. How is Threema business doing?
Secure encryption and online anonymity are now at risk in Switzerland – here's what you need to know

NymVPN, Proton, and Threema are ready to fight back

TechRadar

@grefeng
I like Threema but the problem is that it costs money and people were not willing to spend it. I have it since a long time but chats happen every couple of months.

Then another user problem: some dudes get new phones and didn't remember to backup their Threema ID.

Wrt the phone # in signal: you can use any phone number you own that moment. It also can be a voip number you throw away a moment later.

@ploum

@ploum also, the argument that no-one in your address book is using it is false:
Tried it for an old lady friend of my mother: a dozen of her most frequent contacts already had WhatsApp premium 🥰
@ploum Or, funnily enough, having an old phone (iphone 8 in my case) makes those creepy updates unavailable on it 😄 But I still have migrated to Signal
@ploum funny. I had Signal for years, even convinced my friends to use it. Then they announced that they dropped the SMS feature and I uninstalled the app that very minute.

@ploum @User47 Are you telling me that people use chat apps with advertisements in it? 🤯
Delta Chat: Delta Chat, decentralized secure messenger

Delta Chat is a decentralized and secure messenger app 💬 Reliable instant messaging with multi-profile and multi-device support ⚡️ Sign up to secure fast chatmail servers or use classic e-mail serv...

@pete @ploum fixed it for you, nothing prevents in some years for Signal to take the same path, it is time to realize once and for all that the problem is centralization instead of jumping from one centralized silo to the next until it also becomes a shitshow
@ploum And don't forget, there's a non-zero chance of learning US national security secrets!
@ploum is there an optional ai integration for Signal?
@ploum Still waiting for a signsl app that works well enough on my phone. 🤷‍♀️️
@ploum but why does it require a phone number to sign up?

@ploum

Since my wife is disabled, we use it just to communicate around our home, if I'm out of earshot.

We don't want to inform Big Tech of everything we talk about.

@AnnaAnthro

@EricLawton @ploum @AnnaAnthro In this case, you can be more secure by using Conversations as a client with a Yunohost + Metronome or Prosody running on your own server (Raspberry Pi or VPS).

@ploum

If only notifications worked reliably.

@ploum But it's not actually WhatsApp, is it? I don't want to use WhatsApp, but I can't switch all by myself!
@ploum tg user here, cannot use signal without missing features :/
@ploum is really like the idea of Signal being the Premium version of WhatsApp 👏
@ploum It's a shame that Signal doesn't have channels
SimpleX Chat - Contact

@Distante channels like in whatsapp/tg? For what? Fediverse is channels. You can close your subscribers list also

@ploum
@Xen4n @ploum Today's social media feeds leave room to miss important posts if you are subscribed to more than 7 accounts. Channels solve this problem
@Distante no, you can add subscribed account to lists and read only his timeline.

Union messenger and social network / news feeds is a bad idea.

@ploum
@Xen4n @ploum You still don't have a position on which post you last read. Channels keep the position and give you an indicator of how many new posts have appeared
@Distante it can be managed by the client not much hard

@ploum
@ploum Bonus: you might get invited to US war rooms... 😉
@ploum it's still a centralized platform and i'm afraid of it becoming the next telegram
@pbg take a look at #DeltaChat it is decentralized, anonymous, doesn't require phone numbers, is offline-first, has in-chat mini-apps and collaborative tools, and it is much more easier to use than SimpleX etc.

@ploum And there is a premium version of Signal.
Which is decentralized, doesn't rely on phone numbers and has even more privacy.
- It's called "SimpleX Chat"

SimpleX Chat - Contact

@kadjrare @ploum Sadly, SimpleX is run by fascists. Just read any post from their lead developer on Nazified Twitter for confirmation, like this post promoting hatred against trans people: https://x.com/epoberezkin/status/1881832239186759841

Even if they weren't fascists, they are a for-profit company that has taken VC funding, which means they would be doomed to become evil in the long run.

@JamesEsses It is not just ideology. It is promotion of the chemical castration and mutilation to the children – the UK government should prohibit these horrific experiments. cc @reformparty_uk @RupertLowe10 please raise this issue in the parliament.

X (formerly Twitter)
@skyfaller @ploum It's an opensource project and anyone can run their own servers. I really don't think we should not use a masterpiece because of the creator
